Best Budget Guesthouse

Post by canthai »

I would like to take a poll on what people feel is the best guest house for the money. Please include cost per night if you remember and why you feel it is the best.

Naturally I'm a little biased but you could do a lot worse than these:

Top Marks Hotel
Goanna's Guesthouse
Cat Woman Guesthouse
The Shed Guesthouse
All Seasons Guesthouse

Enough selection for you?

Sukwilai Guesthouse near the bottom of Soi Bintabaht.

800 baht for a nice big room with air con, tv, fridge, great water pressure in the shower, fast laundry service, room service...and right in the heart of the action - if you get a room on the temple side of the building there's also great views of the temple and mountains beyond the town.

Hair Salon, small travel agents and an internet shop are also part of the guesthouse.

There's also a cheaper wing where the rooms start at around 400-500 baht - not tried them but heard from friends that they're good.

The owner was telling me back in February that she was planning on expanding - building a new wing and a swimming pool. Not sure how far she's got with that but the guesthouse is a central and clean budget option as it stands just now.

fulay hotel

Post by dan »

l'll second the vote for the fulay guesthouse. Stayed there many times back in the 1990s.....don't stay there anymore as i have my own place a bit north of town.

The fulay has gone a bit upscale and now they go by the name of Fulay Hotel. They have a wonderful restaurant on the ground floor....nouveau thai and western cuisine...try the spicy beef salad

It's family run and first rate. No security problems, right downtown and great people. English is not a problem here or danish for that matter. But book early as they have many repeat guests and are full up in peak season. Might even take you out for a round of golf if that's your thing.

They don't have an email address as far as I'm aware Goofy. But the telephone number is 006632513523.

They mostly have passing trade and a lot of repeat customers. The family that run the place are also building another hotel in Soi Bintabaht - you might want to find out about that place when you call.

I'd be interested to hear how it's progressing and any details of what they're providing.

It's in Amnuaysin Road, on the corner by the traffic lights. 100 metres from the bus station. Look for the Finnish, swedish, danish and norwegian flags on the window.
