Too right JW,
I had a bar years ago. We generally helped out those folk who were having a good time to get back to, say "The Regent". A reliable taxi was always there for them when they wanted.
A favour done and the customers would be back again, sometimes with others.
In those days, what really got to me was the idiots who arrived, telling me how cheaply they could buy a beer at the local shop and, of course those who caused a probelm with their piddling bill at the end of the night.
I've questioned bills as well, as is my right. But I've always paid up.
As for Yung's comment- does the owner know of your dissatisfaction?

Its when you KNOW that they are trying to rip you off the problem occurs. Its when they look at you like "will he find out?", and when you point it out they react like "oops, din't work..." and correct the "mistake" almost before you've finished your sentence. Talking more about 300 Bath out of nowhere.
Just seen this. I agree with you.

I guess i was a little extreme on the 12 beer thing - it happens on 3 or 4 regularly, but thats another point. As you rightly say sometimes you ask for the bill and the look in the eyes of the cashier tells it all!! It canbe funny sometimes cause its so blatant. I remember one friend in Samui taking a girl and moving to a beer bar maybe 100 yards away, having 4 or 5 drinks each and the cashier tried to charge lady drink prices!! She didnt get away with it!

Every time you order why not just initial the stub and make sure they see you do it. Works in Pattaya.

Good idea if they give a new bill every round.

What we do here is to put the bill in front of the customer and leave it there until they pay. The customer can then witness any changes that are made to it.

I appreciate that many people are ripped off by narrow minded short sighted bar owners or managers.

For myself, if I go to a bar and the bill is kept out of sight I make a mental note of what I have ordered.

As, I think was mentioned earlier on this topic, most mistakes I have seen in six years in Thailand have either been 1. In favour of the customer, 2. A mistake by the customer because he has had too much to drink and can not remember how much he has had until he has been shown the shocking reality of the bill.

I have done that one myself a few times and realised when sober that In was probably wrong.
Voted the best bar in Hua Hin three years in a row.
Well stocked fridge. Good music, pool, cable and UBC TV. Water features, fish, no hassles no chocolate starfishes.

Last year I witnessed a certain bar owner and his friend moan about every bill in their last stop of the night, over a month they did it in at least four different bars to the extent that they ran out of places to go. I wonder what his reaction would be in his bar. Yeah some bars pad the bill but most do not. Most people find a bar they like and come back nearly every day of their holiday have a good time and go home with good memories of H H.

Spot on SHADOW.
You could even meet some like-minded farangs there and cool off with.
This is the reason why HH has become so popular.
We do have a lot of friendly bars and people in HH!!!

the Hilton

Post by Mestizo »

Although the topic and posts may be a bit old, I couldn't resist putting my vote in for the Hilton. I really don't think their bar, disco, club, brothel or whatever you want to call it can get enough bad press. I can name all of the reasons (prices, bad music, lack of style, monopoly, etc.) listed other posts plus a personal one as well.

A few month's back, my wife insisted I take her there. She ordered a pina colada which she said tasted funny, so I tried it , gagged, then politely went to the bar to complain it tasted overly sour, yet rotten at the same time (mai dee). The bartender gave me a funny look, then I motioned for her to try it and she refused. I asked for another drink to replace it and was refused. I have been to a fair number of bars over the years and never once has a bartender refused to make matters right in such an instance, and usually with an apology and or a free round added. I will not ever buy another drink in their establishment and wish others would wise up and take the same stance.

Where have you been ukdog? Obviously never in HH.
Most of the people I've come to be known with in HH are some of the nicest people you can imagine.
Among these people you find Koreans, Thais, Americans, Aussies and Europeans. People from the UK tend to be in the majority, and they are
splendid people.
I only know some 50-70 people here but zero shitheads!
The 9 bar owners I know are all excellent people who works hard to make a living out here.
If you have a problem to find nice people in HH then you will have the same problem elsewhere and everywhere.
I'm not taunting or mocking you Ukdog, this is purely my opinion!!
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Jaime I am sure you will have no problem remembering the ones that matter.

As for Joni and Heebios discussion. The atmosphere in a bar can change (literally) overnight with replacement of just a couple of staff. A complete change of management can have a cataclismic effect.

Unfortunately many of the very pleasant girls you find in bars dissapear very quickly for obvious reasons.
