At the moment I doubt that there will be many in Bangkok. From where I am it is a gost town, traffic similar to when there was complete lockdown!

I fail to see how under the current circumstances can Songkran be termed 'the most dangerous days' regarding road accidents. As reported, Songkran has been more of a damp squib (not even damp!). Accidents and injuries are down from last year when Songkran was cancelled.
Blaming covid transmission is a nonsense. The virus doesn't pass through water. "People are unlikely to wear masks when splashing water!". So what! With water fights, there is less likely to be infected droplets in the air for people to breath. In my opinion, water fights in the open air are more likely to reduce any spread of the virus.

Just another example of control of the masses.

That depends upon whose version of the truth you believe (list follows for Tapatalk users)
  • If you look at RSC (the numbers used for the rest of the year except the real New Year,) the death toll for the first 4 days is 281.
  • If you look at the Government's numbers, the death toll for the first 4 days is 154.
After 4 days last year, the 'official' number was 152.

In 2019 the 'official' number was 256 after 4 days.

I agree, BB. At the end of the day, the published figures mean absolutely nothing. Just an exercise in propaganda.

Deaths seem to be split:

Those that die at the scene.

Those reported from insurance data.

Those that die with no insurance.

Those that die after the event.

Afik there are no figures that include all the above.

There are no accurate statistics about anything that has to do with the public. It is impossible to know how many anybodys are doing or not doing anything.

Songkran road death toll reaches 204

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... eaches-204

Five-day total up from 192 in same period last year

Traffic fatalities on the first five days of Songkran holiday travel have reached 204, compared with 192 reported in the same period last year, according to government data released on Saturday.

A total of 1,452 people were injured in 1,478 road accidents from April 11-15, Interior Ministry deputy permanent secretary Nirat Pongsithithavorn said on Saturday, citing a report from the Road Safety Centre. The accident total was down 18% from 1,795 in the first five days of the Songkran period last year.

On Friday alone, the fifth of the “seven dangerous days” of holiday travel, 44 people were killed and 263 admitted to hospital as a result of 277 road accidents nationwide.

Speeding was the main cause of accidents (39.35%), followed by drink-driving (28.5%). Most accidents involved motorcycles, which accounted for 77.7%, said Mr Nirat.
