John Martyn - RIP

Post by lomuamart »

As I've posted in the "What are you listening to now" thread, I've always had a lot of time for this man. In his own way, he was one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. I've been listening to his music for some 35 years, met the man once and was invited up to Glasgow for a few days to go partying with him- never made it though. A few days with him back then might have been too much even for me.
A sad loss for music all round:

I'm gobsmacked.

Being a guitarist I have always been a fan of John Martyn. I remember seeing him mid 70's on the Whistle test singing 'May you never' and loved his guitar playing and dulcet tones.

He wrote 'solid air' a tribute to Nick Drake, in my opinion one of the most underated singer/song writers ever!

He will be sadly missed as will his music. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Check out Nick Drakes as well. You wont be dissapointed I promise you...
