Official Website
Keith Floyd (28 December 1943 - 14 September 2009) was a chef who produced numerous cooking shows for the BBC and Channel 5, and published many books combining cookery and travel. Keith Floyd died of a heart attack, aged 65, on Monday 14 September 2009.[1][2]. His last appearance was at the Piotrish Food Guide on 7 September 2009.
Also BBC. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8256260.stm
And spookily on channel 4 http://www.channel4.com/programmes/keit ... od#2970765.
There was a programe about him.
Last night.
I think it may have been suspected.
He looked like a man of 80. Obviously the years of smoking and drinking had its toll.
The 4 ex wives probaly drove him to drink.
So another premature death.
But a colourful life non the less.
So i'll drink to that.

I saw the programme last night and was surprised at how old he looked for a guy of 65.
I have to say, I felt that to have a TV crew there when he saw his daughter for the first time in 10 years seemed to put a lot of strain on his daughter.
He and Keith Allen were F..ing and blinding most of the time, mostly uncalled for IMHO.
He called all TV people including other TV cooks, a load of (I can't print the word on this forum) yet it was TV that gave him his big break!!!.
Floyd came across as very arrogant, or maybe that was the drink talking.
I got the impression that he blamed his ex wife's for all his problems but as we have not heard their side of the story, the jury is still out on that one for me. The fact that maybe it was him that messed up his life with the drink, seemed to have escaped him.
He was a complex character and without a doubt a good cook but maybe drink was his big problem and cost him 4 marriages and the loss of many businesses.
I doubt we will see his like again, as the cooks on TV now, seem mostly to have got their acts together.
RIP.

On the TV programme last night they said after a recent visit to hospital he was told his liver was in perfect condition.
There's a few bits on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8256260.stm
Including this in the comments.

I was having lunch in the same restaurant as him yesterday. I wish I had spoken to him now but didn't want to intrude.
He seemed to be having a good time enjoying his lunch and a nice bottle of red!
He looked much better than he did on the tv programme last night He was an inspiration and made cooking fun!
Before I knew birds eye chillies properly, I remember him on a tv programme at Sydney Harbour - this is probably at least 15 years ago.
Cooking outside, chopping the chillies up with his customary bottle of wine, he warned viewers not to touch their eyes or nether regions until they had washed their hands properly.
He promptly wiped his eyes and was in agony. He burst out laughing telling the camera that he should have taken his own advice. Something to that effect anyway.
I thought it was hilarious, especially as he could hardy speak through booze beforehand. As far as the pain goes, it's happened to me so I can symphasise. Don't think I laughed though.
He was a showman.

He was one of life's characters and (in my opinion) a darn site more entertaining than the current young scruffy-haired chefs.
Mr.VS (when Keith was in his prime) looked very similar to him. When eating in a quiet restaurant one evening, he was being stared at by a couple of old ladies. When they went to leave the restaurant they told him how much they enjoyed his programmes, and how nice it was that he was eating in this restaurant. Mr.VS tried to explain that he wasn't Keith, but they said they fully understood and went away smiling.
I find the fact that he went to the doctors that morning, and they said he was doing fine quite scary. This, I think, was in France - which is considered to be one of the best European countries for health care.

Nope, that's fine by me - pow, gone. Thank you very much, that life was damn good fun. No lingering death, no chemo, no time for regrets and worries. Not wishing my life away, but when it happens I'll take that over many alternatives.Vital Spark wrote:I find the fact that he went to the doctors that morning, and they said he was doing fine quite scary.
It annoys me intensely when people talk about celebrities as if they know them (no reference to anyone on this thread). For all I know Keith Floyd was as miserable as sin and an all-round eejit. But I suspect (and hope) not.

And from the man himself...
When you are famous, people assume that they know you . . . and that even if they don't, then they can soon become your friend. It might sound an exaggeration, but a lot of the time I felt hunted.
....
Also, I feel a terrific sense of achievement. I was and still am extremely proud of what I've been able to do.
I was lucky enough to be able to travel the world, at someone else's expense, and to taste magnificent dishes, cook with unusual and interesting ingredients, and share this knowledge with millions upon millions of television viewers and readers of my cookery books; not just the British, but people all around the globe.
Dear reader, sometimes I worry about what I've left out. And sometimes I worry about what I've put in. But, for now, as this book fades to black, I'll have another pastis. Thank you, and au revoir.
