Blocked Threads.

Post by tuktukmike »

Lev,

I cant believe you have now locked that thread.

Why so touchy, sure we all went off topic a little but i thought jamie explained clearly enough that the original thread was two dimensional.

What sort of forum do you want??

One full of yes Sir no Sir type, this sort of thing happened on Thaivisa site and upset many users on there.

Maybe it would be best if you just allowed Tourists and not the locals to post on your site but i think from looking at the numbers your traffic would drop drastically.

We all respect that you have a job to do but Sledgehammer and Nut springs to mind here, or maybe someone had a bad night.

I am sure we have all read about freedom of speech and wonder does this apply here or are we going back 50 years.

Go easy guys and lighten up, tomorrows another day.

Mike.

Do you want to be banned?

If your only intentions are to stir things up around here you're heading in the right direction.

That post was the first one I've had to split in two years, why is it such a big deal? Why take it so personally? All we are doing is a little tidying here and there, I think you should lighten up and stop taking little administrative decisions so heavily, every forum has its moderators, live with them or leave.

Lev,

I understand that you cannot let the lunatics take over the asylum but its a shame you locked the other thread because it attempts to deny me a fair chance to publicly reply in this, the suggestions part of the board.

Firstly, If you think I have a problem with you splitting a thread and editing or removing errant posts you are wrong - I can live with that - it's only a web forum after all! A sense of perspective is required here.

As I mentioned in the locked thread I was not going to take part in it because I felt the issue had run its course, but despite what you have since written in this forum, you did single me out personally, which I thought was rather unfair, given the circumstances I have described. Only after that did I feel a reply was warranted. Lets face it, my offending post even had a nee-ner emoticon at the end to ensure that readers understood that it was meant in jest, I couldn't make it any lighter than that surely? We all descend into drivel from time to time and obviously if it is just crap you can feel free to clean up threads for the reasons you describe but it seems that my unintended sarcasm provoked a bit of a knee jerker. As an aside, I have seen plenty of genuine sarcasm on this board - especially when discussions get polarised and posters don't see eye to eye and occassionally even administrators dish it out - like when they can't believe that new posters have asked a question that they could have found the answer to by trawling through previous posts. None of this seems to get edited - just an observation! Hopefully food for thought - I intend to leave it there.

On another less personal matter to do with the original post, I did not actually think it needed to be split, just cleaned up. Although it had wandered off topic I did think there was a sub-text to the original post that was being discussed naturally as part of the thread - just my opinion - hopefully it won't generate the sense of annoyance and IMHO OTT threats of banning that TTM received! Other than that, keep up the good work!

@ Mike
Sorry to hear you are thinking of "leaving" the forum. Personaly, I look forward to reading your posts. But Lev has got every right to do what he likes to the posts on the forum that he helped to set up (I assume). Moderator editing is minimal on this site. They even let you get away with adding a hyperlink to your site as a signature, not many simular forums allow that. You may loose lots of traffic and goodwill to your buisness if you are seen as someone who doesn't like an authority figure telling him what to do. Having said that, I think Lev's last post on this thread was a bit harsh, even at someone who openly critisises the moderators on their own forum. Who gives a flying f**k about split and locked threds. Keep posting Mike, you sound like a nice guy.

I do not see it a big deal that Lev split a thread in two. On other sites this happens all the time
and no one is offended. There is no malice, censure or dictatorship involved in this.

Just chillax, Mike, this is no big deal. Keep on posting, much as we all keep on truckin'

Mike, you be cool man!8)

There was nothing bad in Lev doing his thing by locking/splitting etc, he even started another thread covering the way the original thread had shifted. Some moderator go totally gimpish and don't do that!

C'mon lets just forget this craziness and get back to posting our stuff.

Hi all ,,

Thanks for the replies,

Firstly i must say i have not attacked the moderators just tried to put my point across, I was unhappy at the way one of our members was singled out and then the thread locked before he could reply.

I personally know Lev and as far as i know he is still a friend and he sent a PM to me to which i have replied, Whenever a new thread is posted it will always be the case that people will have a different perspective of any thread which results in many answeres, sometimes some of us may unintentially feel we may have offended others on the said subject and this is where the so called (off topic) will appear as we may try and make light of our views.

It has always seemed a very friendly forum compared to most but i was told if there was something i thought wrong i should post in the suggestions link, unfortunatly i did this and i still think my post was most innofensive but to the point.

On the point that new visitors dont want to read this banter i really disagree and furthermore looking at new posts people are asking about ie hotels then we all try and do our best to be helpfull on these subjects and many others if we have the knowledge.

I am coming up to 48years old and was shocked that i was threatened with being Banned, for what. I love a joke and wanted this forum to be light hearted and we could all join in.

I still see no reason as to why the thread was split as many different views will always come in from the first response, as to this affecting my web traffic there will be no differance as we are already nearly top on most search engines due to my sons changes made to our site.

Also i have read some of the things the moderators have replied to and found some to have been extremely offensive in the past,

So in conclusion I will get on with my life out here as happily as i did before and will expect Lev to dig deep into his pocket and buy me the first drink he has ever bought me,

But sadly its time to call it a day as i cant allow this sort of threat of being banned to someone of my very old age to warrent me posting anymore.

But next time you see me driving another new tuk-tuk in hua hin maybe we can have a drink and a chat.

All the best to all of you out there.

Mike, ps removed my tuk tuk site link. 8)

Hi Mike,

After a shaky start I think we found we agree on quite a few things and agreed to disagree on quite a few others! Hope you make it back to the forum some time but I understand your reason for wanting to take a break. I look forward to a drink with you and a barrage of sheep jokes in October! It'll come around quicker than you think!

Well, Mike, as I have already written to you in private, I had not been able to follow all threads in the last days, unfortunately.
Hence, the "reason", why one wanted to exile you from the forum is unclear to me.
Unfortunately, the Moderator was a little bit too quick, so that members like me couldn't post pursue the reason.

On the other side I think, we are not in a kindergarten here... Criticism and black humor should be also accepted.
Of course, that isn't everybody's thing, but it's a part of our society, opinion and existence authorization!
As long as no personal insults are formulated, tolerance should rule ... also from dissenters.
(But you know, my friend, one can do enemies to hisself also in "anonymous" forums.)

I don't know, why Lev is angry with you ... I just hope, both of you are able to find a fair solution.
Personally, I would be glad to read your humorous contributions in the forum also furthermore.

Keep cool my friend & Cheers

I have just returned from two days away and to be honest I have not looked forward to coming back to the board.

Firstly to Mike, I apologise for threatening to ban you, it was never going to happen, there has only been one person banned in the history of this board and he was a real asshole. You are right, I was having a bad morning and yours was the first thing I read so I reacted to it. The rest you can read in the PM but the bottom line is I don't want you to leave HHAD, you have made more of a contribution in the two months or so that you've been with us than the majority of our other silent members have in 2 years, I dont want to lose that.

Secondly to Jaime, again I apologise for naming you but I have to stick by my Moddys. In hind sight it probably was a bad idea splitting that thread, its the first one I've done, it was also our most popular thread ... I am learning too!

Thirdly to everyone else, thank you for your loyalty, it is appreciated.

Nice one Lev - 'nuff said.

Hopefully Mike will now think about a return to the board and my naughty boy hat can be removed  ! Ironically, perhaps this is a good time to block this particular thread and draw a line under this, er.. episode. Except that I have one more thing to add......

Britwoman must be laughing her proverbials off at us all!

I agree and hope Mike does decide to return. His posts have been very informative for residents and potential visitors as well and he replies quickly. If someone sees him, buy him a drink for me also and tell him this 55 year old says 48 is still a baby...lol. Pete

You are right Lev, Mike did provide a lot of useful information in a short time. I'll miss his posts, as I keep track of all the helpful tidbits provided by posters here and on other Thailand related forums. I am sure they will make my eventual move over there go much more smoothly.
I'd appreciate Mike's return, if he can accept your appology...
