New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
We are experimenting with pop-under (behind the browser) advertising from a Thai news feed and image generator. This is a trial run and will only be adopted if revenue is generated at acceptable levels and they do not cause too many disruptions to board usage and functionality.
Thanks for your patience.

My honest reaction: (And sorry if it's not wanted)
If my pop-up blockers fail to stop it, then it would probably cause me to leave the site. Run all the adverts you want to on the site, but when you cause a pop-up you're using MY computer, and I don't appreciate that. I've only encountered 2 sites that my blockers didn't handle, and I now have both sites on my black-list of sites not to visit. Please don't go this route.

Already finding it irritating, intrusive and a real pain ............please remove it asap !!!!
Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
Thanks for the feedback, can we ask a couple of questions:
1) How often does it appear (just the once or multiple times)?
2) Does it popup (over the forum) or under (beneath the browser)?
3) What browser are you using?
The reason we started this thread was to gauge the feedback, naturally we will not be adopting them if everyone has the same problems, no advertising is worth losing the readership over.

I found that when using IE8 lots of extra clicking sounds happening as the pop-up blocker was being activated and 2 fullpage pop-up pages appeared after exiting the forum webpageLev wrote:Thanks for the feedback, can we ask a couple of questions:

(beneath the browser) which then need to be exited.
Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
I only once had the message that a popup window is blocked by firefox. I will never allow it to open, what most of the readers will do. So not much advertising effect.

Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
I generally hate pop ups with a passion as it's usually only trying to sell something, but this one has actually got some interesting/funny Thailand related stuff on there if you take the time to read it.
Doesn't bother me too much (though I possibly lose a good second or two of my time ) - pops up once and stays down in the browser. If it brings in any significant money it's good for the site as long as forum members are at all interested in things happening in Thailand.

Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
We have disabled the popup/under code now - they were not functioning as they were supposed to.
We are looking into running the content in a different way, possibly replacing the Google Adsense column on the side since it generates very little in terms of click-through.

Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
I had a pop up over the forum page, just the once.
Had a quick look after the initial jitter , not to intrusive & bearable if it is of benefit to HHAD.
I won't be getting my Y-fronts in a twist over it, considering i get to use the site & all it's benefits for free

Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
My Firefox pop up blocker was off and it was popping up each time I opened a new post or forum section. Opened over top of the HHF page. Pete

Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
That's what it was doing for me at first until I figured out that if I dont close the pop up window it doesn't pop up again. Just stays down the bottom. No problem at all really and if HHF decided to have the pop up featured as it is I certainly wouldn't be abandoning the site for the (insert pompous upper class accent) inconvenience.
And their using it for FREE also the shameless &%&$^&! There must be some law against this using things for FREE business. If my pop-up blockers fail to stop it, then it would probably cause me to leave the site.when you cause a pop-up you're using MY computer, and I don't appreciate that.
Re: New advertising on Hua Hin Forum
I use two browsers, FireFox and Maxthon, and I never saw any of the pop-ups during the HuaHinForum trial period (and I'm online on the forum almost all day nearly every day; at least my machine is). Nothing changed for me so maybe it's in the controls you use in your browser(s).
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

More likely the reason you didn't or haven't noticed anything is because it's now been removed and was only in use for a brief period yesterday.

To quote Homer Simpson - 'Doh!'More likely the reason you didn't or haven't noticed anything is because it's now been removed and was only in use for a brief period yesterday.
Happens all the time (myself included) when you 'scan' a thread rather than reading it.
