I'm not talking about specialties I'm talking about the basics. Hospital processing, cleanliness, efficiency and costs.
Please make your mind up richard. Are you talking about professional medical charges (in which case there is no comparison, because the hospitals offer different services); or are you talking about general charges as I suggested - if general charges, I would still be interested in seeing a comparison between RUTNIN, San Paulo and Bangkok Hospital.

She is 68 and like you had worn specs - varifocals - since her early teens, so is well pleased now with her distance vision. Maybe also due to age she had soreness and watering of the eyes for quite a while afterwards, but the improvement in peripheral vision, as well as distance of course, has noticeably improved her driving!
But there was no mention of any future possibility of the laser varifocal correction, which someone mentioned earlier.
I guess that in many ways the NHS lags behind in new treatments. On the plus side it can be done free for some people - can't have it all ways.
Overall from comments on this topic I think I'd much rather trust Rutnin and fork out 50 odd k baht, than put my faith in some UK private outfit like Vision Express which would probably cost much the same.
Yes, was very impressed with Rutnin, both service and prices - no hidden extras and they even gave me a healthy discount from their advertised prices. There are cheaper places to get Lasik done but for an extra 8-10k I'd rather go with the specialists.

Forgot to mention during my post regarding my visit to Rutnin that they also provided me with a medical certificate and a specification for new reading glasses and recommended I get a new set of reading glasses in HH. Any recommendations?

I'm a bit wary of the 'eye candied' joints as they only seem interested in selling you sexy frames.

All sensible responses welcome :duck:

Assuming RUTNIN is a hospital (sorry, you'll have to excuse my ignorance), it would be interesting to see a breakdown of their charges as a comparison to what Bangkok Hospital and San Paulo have charged us in the past. Obviously, the actual treatments would not be comparing like with like, but hotel charges, nursing charges etc would provide a good comparison.
Sure I could produce a spreadsheet but I think this says it all IMO
So six high tec tests (1800 bht), two doctor visits spanning a total of 40 minutes (710 bht) , In-house medication (215 bht), out-patient medication (1645bht for 6 months) Total cost for 4 hours 4370 bht
An indication of doctors fees

SP 1000 for 2 minutes (a brief chat)
BKH 700 for 2 minutes (a brief chat)
Petcharat 700 for 15 minutes (full examination)
Polyclinic 300 for 20 minutes (full examination)
Bumrumgrad 1200 for 15 minutes (full examination)

Nursing charges are not too dissimilar

I know of at least two people who have reported SP to the medical council and one is also considering BKH should be reported too

I went to BKH for treatment for a stomach ulcer. After keeping me in for 3 hours and charging me14,900 bht( doctor, drip, blood test, x-ray and in-house medication) transferred me to SP (at a cost of 1000 bht) where they performed the 15 minute operation that BKH could not do and charged me 52644 bht (2 days observation). Hence I am a little critical of their intentions and services.

I'm not the only one. Ask around and there are some sorry tales. These are not one offs. I have taken or visited friends who have had to have treatment and seen them well ripped whilst still unconscious

Hi,

Has anyone got any recent experience of getting laser eye surgery while based in Hua Hin. I would like to have my left eye treated. (Had Laslik on the right eye nearly 20 years ago)
My main questions are :
Any recommended local surgeons in HH, or is it worth one night in Bangkok?
Is ReLEx an upgrade on Laslik?
What is the price range for one eye?
Hope somebody has some positive experience to share.

Check out Dr Pairat between Soi 88/1 and 88/2 just south of Market Village. Probably the only opthalmologist in Hua Hin. There are plenty of reviews on this forum. I and many others I know have had cataract surgury and my mother had laser correction whilst she was here on holiday a couple of years ago.

A quick update ten years after the surgery since this thread has been revived.

Left eye vision is still perfect, however, the right eye is starting to deteriorate for distance and takes a little longer to focus. Still don't need the reading glasses yet but going out into direct sunlight without sunnies on can be painful. Driving at night still a nightmare but never do it anyway!

May pop in to Dr P. as suggested above for another checkup, maybe the right eye just needs another little laser burst!

Edit: HHTel, do you have a phone number we can call to make an appointment?

He doesn't take appointments, you just show up and wait your turn. He's closed from 12-5 PM, Mon-Sat. I think he opens at 9 am. You should call to make sure.

Not really an option then since I don't live in HH - I'll live with it.

I would still call him and tell him your circumstances and distance from Hua Hin. There are exceptions to everything, especially if your eyesight continues to deteriorate.

Quick update, Di Pairat's staff say he doesn't do corrective laser eye for distance only Glaucoma treatent. They pointed me towards Rutnin Clinic in Bangkok who are quoting :
Laslik old method 41,000 baht (all for one eye)
Femto Laslik 60,000
Relix 65,000

Its a 1,500 fee for the initial consultation.

The wait is never too long. Turn up, and you'll usually be seen within 30 minutes.

He certainly used to do all types of laser treatment. Bangkok Hospital were sending their patients to him as they didn't have the equipment and Dr. Pairat had.

My mother definitely had laser correction there a couple of years ago.
