Hua Hin Cinema

Post by Babylon »

Everyone who complains there is never English movies at the cinema, it is currently showing, Killer Elite in English, times, once in the afternoon, plus 18.45 and 21.00. I went last night and the reason they never show English movies was clear, we were 2 of 8 people in the show!

Its a great movie about some SAS guys, with a few twists along the way, set in the 1980's UK. Well worth watching if you like a good action / adventure movie. Sure there are loads of reviews online.

My vote if you want them to show more English movies, we should show some support for this current movie, or stop wingeing

Probably because nobody knew it was being shown. Did you turn up by chance or did you see it advertised in advance?
I have to say I've completely given up on this. I haven't been to a cinema in more than 10 years, and I'm quite happy to watch at home now with a beer at my side, a puppy in my lap and my wife at my feet. Or something like that...

Thanks for the info, which is extremely hard to find or, more probably, non-existent. Hua Hin Major Cineplex is a spectacular success story in non-marketing. They really keep their secrets and hide well even their most desirable offerings. I've a feeling they shun the materialistic ways of business in general, and do not wish to attract customers for the sake of mere money.

I agree with d-m about the beer-in-lap-scene, too.

Same experience here. We went to see that movie last saturday evening 9pm, we had the whole room for ourselves!
2 customers in a +200 seats room...

Got to give credit to Major for trying hard to satisfy us farangs: they do advertise their programs and show times in English at every floor of Market village (check the full size digital displays by the escalators), and also on their web-site, see tonight program at majorcineplex . com/showtimepage.php?searchmode=1&refer=showtimebox&branch=HUH&movie=

I actually booked my ticket by calling their hotline in the afternoon. Impeccable service. You can also buy your tickets online when you get their M-GEN member card, which gives you discounts, free snacks, and fast-track service.

Maybe we should all do a little effort to see what s right under our noses before complaining...

Put it in perspective.. if you know a little restaurant that serves only Thai food and a few Farangs say that there's a calling for fish and chips within the community so they add it to there menu. After a while they start losing money on this as the fish is going bad and they are selling one a day, yet still being harassed to serve fish and chips.... well you know what I mean.

How would you react to a business proposition that you know 100% will lose you money.

If I lived in HH and had a big telly (50"+), projector and some comfy chairs I would hold free movie nights. Bring your own vittles and ale...

I would advertise what was to be shown on here and call it 'THE CORNHOLE CINEMA'...

there is an app for smart phones which tells you all the films showing at every Major in Thailand and the language - I checked on this and went to see killer elite last weekend.

I think Major do a pretty good job myself with this app and the website, adverts in the ground floor of market village...

IMHO the problem is marketing. We often get advice that a movie will be shown in English (for example) tomorrow evening. I'm sure there would be greater support, but the notice given is insufficient, and people just can't change their plans at short notice.

I'm sure if somebody could maybe start a thread with a regular feature of what's on in the English language during the next week, more people would make the effort, and fit the cinema into their routine.

Babylon, how far ahead do those posters advertise these English movies?

I've just been doing a little more 'Internet' research on the Hua Hin cinema. The films listed are shown with distinct (EN/TH) or (__/TH). I've checked out the trailer for the (EN/TH) movie, and it is English language with Thai subtitles - is that what I could expect to see at the cinema, or would the movie be dubbed in Thai?

If that fails, the website does have a direct phone number, so I guess it should be possible to phone to find out if the movie will be in Thai or English, or more importantly when any English sittings will be held.

So, is that what it means when a film is advertised as (EN/TH)? If it does, does that mean they're all in English with Thai subtitles, or are some showings still dubbed in Thai?

If there are still some dubbed in Thai, how do you know when the English version is being shown?
