Finally got to try Cafe 99. Had Fish and Chips which in this Non Brits opinion was very good the peas we just peas nothing special. This was a very good meal for 99 baht. My friend had the Meatballs with what looked like real mashed potatoe, He also was very happy. I will be back to try other dishes.

Tried quite a few meals now and they just continue to deliver good honest food, good portions and well cooked. Value for money is second to non and service is always done with a smile :)

Went there again a couple of days ago. As usual, excellent food and service. My daughter wanted sausage and mash and for the first time ever in any restaurant I've visited, we were told "the sausages are not good!!". Not from another customer, but from 'the management'. She said "I'm just being honest." My daughter insisted on sausage and mash, and the sausages were excellent. Can't wait to try the sausages they consider 'good'.

The only disappointment I've had, and it's not any fault of the cafe, was to turn up with 8 people on Thursday only to find they close on Thursday's. Now I know.

We'll be back.

I haven't been there yet, and I have no idea of their finances, but this sounds like a classic case of keeping the prices low and getting a lot more business!

Sod's law, as we've just moved more than halfway to Cha-am, but we'll definitely be there for lunch one of these days (what about it, HHF - early next month?).

In fact, come to think of it, why don't a few of us get together for lunch, since food seems to be a fairly popular subject on the forum?

Not being a person who can eat very much, I've not been to look for myself. However, I'm sure that I was reading something recently that was indicating some sort of food war (war is probably not a good word, because I don't think fighting is involved) is going on in Soi 102.

There's the place in the OP at 99 Baht a meal, we've already discussed previously the place where food is free if you are buying drinks and there's another place where you can get a meal and a drink for 99 Baht on certain days.

It all sounds too good, especially if you live in or near to Soi 102. Healthy competition is good :munch:

Cafe 99 definitely is the place to visit. Unbelievably good food for 99 THB!

DM, be up for some grub with a few of the guys sometime :)
Dad had the Bratwurst yesterday... bloody good:).

There was a place called dine for 99 in soi Diana Pattaya 3 or 4 years ago, which was a great idea.. in teh space of 4 months the food went from pretty good to terrible, I think on a big scale with lots of staff and expensive location its difficult to control costs.

Best of luck to 99Cafe, keep doing what your doing and you will have a ver loyal base of customers :)

I can also recommend the "Hua Hin 99er Cafe" (mods, maybe the thread title should be changed).

I've had the fish and chips and the Bratwurst (in some kind of curry sauce?) and chips and they were both very good. They will get to know me as a regular for sure. I was there yesterday at straight up noon, and service was excellent even though a table of 8 of what I assumed were teachers from Somtawan or some other school arrived at the same time. BTW, directly next door is another restaurant that serves pizza calzones among other things. I haven't tried it but will soon. I think both restaurants as well as the laundry beside them may be owned by the same family as it appeared that the waitress from the calzone place and the lady from the laundry came to help with that large table of teachers.

I've met Andy (the owner) and he and his staff are all friendly and offer good smiling service even when under the pressure of a crowd of customers arriving at once.

I highly recommend this place, and Big Boy, they have wooden chairs and at 99 baht, the portions are reasonable, but not huge so I think it's probably a good place for you (with your new stomach capacity) and your family. Example of portion size is that usually at most restaurants fish and chips comes with two pieces of fish, there it is one, but a big enough one for all but the hungriest of appetites. The Brat was also only one large sausage. I actually prefer a bit smaller meal at a lower price than feeling that I have to stuff myself because I paid for a huge plate of food. And heck, if the portions aren't big enough for someone, two meals at 99 baht each wouldn't be unreasonable!
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Maybe these businesses can give a little back to the forum for all the customers it is sending their way, and the free publicity, by taking an advertorial for pennies ... nah - that's prolly asking too much !!!

 Plastic chairs aren't actually such an issue for me these days as I am shrinking, I've even tried that restaurant on Soi 94 a couple of times. However, I still think it's a very poor finish to any establishment, and often still puts me off walking through the door.

Funnily enough, the thing that has put me off this particular establishment is that until now people have been talking about generous portions, and I became Big Boy because I hate wasting food. You are the first (I think) to say that portion size is not so large, so you may have convinced me.

On the large portion front my appetite is abysmal compared to 10 years ago so I'm happy to eat what I can and microwave up the remainder at home.

Have been know to eat half a portion early evening and the take away part makes a nice snack at midnight or an early breakfast

That's OK for you richard, but I've had the thingy that tells my brain that I need food removed. I don't actually need food at any time - I have to remember to eat food at set times, and when I do eat, I don't have a very big capacity to take food on board. I don't think a midnight snack will ever be appealing to me again.

surely the forum is also about members sharing their experiences, both good and bad to allow others to make decisions

surely advetorials are all about self promotion, I for one will not be bashing anyone for not taking one on

Sharing experiences is one thing, renaming threads to suit specific venues that are not willing to give anything in return is something completely different as the moderator rightly pointed out. It is unfair on those that do support us and use the forum in a professional manner to market their business.

We have overheads too and we doubt very much that there is a single restaurant or bar in Hua Hin that would allow us to dine or drink for free, yet there are plenty that are happy to do similar when the shoe is on the other foot and they are benefiting from the free publicity generated by our website.

We simply would appreciate a little reciprocation now and then from those that are obviously doing well out of us, this shouldn't be too much to ask for considering our rock bottom rates and how simple we make advertising.

Note: we have no problem with this thread or any similar, however on occasion we would just like to raise awareness of our own needs as a small business.
