Through Google Translate.....

"In the Thai resort town of Hua Hin robber attacked a family of Russians. To force them to give valuable things, the offender took hostage four-year girl.
The incident occurred today in the private, gated village near Hua Hin. The robber got into the house through the window. "He knew only a few words in English - money, dollars, euros. Grabbed our daughter, put a knife to her throat, made it clear that was not joking," - told Itar-Tass the child's mother Elena.
Child offender held for 40 minutes while their parents collected valuables. The girl herself is not affected. Robber managed to carry home Russians appliances and jewelry."

Not good, especially with the 4 year old involved. Would be interesting to know which estate this was on... :cuss: :guns:

Sad to see this type of thing happen any where... Wonder if the robber was Thai or some type of farang? Very interested in where this happened also... No place is ever 100% safe! but you would hope a gated community would be last to see something like this happen!!! hope they catch the scumbag ASAP!!!!

In my time here most of the robberies I've known of (many) were in gated communities because the low paid workers in those communities, including the security guards, know who is home and who is not and get to know patterns of when a house is empty. Nearly every home robbery I've seen solved in ten years here was in a community and the workers of the community were involved.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Aggravated robbery by a single assailant, with hostage taking..?

..sounds more like the stuff of the movie world than real time.

There are probably odd exceptions, but every incidence of robbery perpetrated by Thais that I can recall has involved a small gang of them, and not a lone operator.

And the hostage bit sounds much more like a Russian MO than a Thai one..

..of course, if someone likes to play the little oligarch and has run out of money; staging a robbery is a good way of explaining why the family jewels have gone missing..

..or am I being too skeptical..?
I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly...

Skeptical, no. Irrational or even paranoid, quite possibly.
