Why does it matter. If it did fall on a weekend, it would be moved to the Monday. Either way it's not an alcohol free day so drinkers need not be worried.

Nothing to do with alcohol, that's your distorted brain conclusion. I am happy that it's not a long holiday.

I would imagine others will take off December 6 as well, and if able Monday December 9 to link it with Constitution Day on December 10. Potential for a 6 day long weekend.

I imagine Hua Hin will be full during that period.
Pessimistic supposition.

Nothing distorted here. Your argument doesn't hold water. If the 5th falls on a weekend then it's moved to the Monday. Be it Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday (4 days of a 7 day week) then it's a long weekend.
In general, even if it falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, Thais will develop it into a long weekend.

Long holiday or not. I'm curious as to your complaint of a 'long holiday'. Except for the one day, be it at the weekend or otherwise, trading is as normal. Even then it's only government offices and schools that close.
You're not at school are you??

For my satisfaction and your disappointment 6th. Dec will not be a holiday.
Of course those who have enough money will make the bridge, but government offices and banks will not.

April 2020

Note: There are reports that due to Covid-19, the entire Songkran holiday may be postponed until sometime in July. When anything firm is announced we'll update the calendar.

Update: Songkran has now been postponed and removed from our Calendar listing for the month of April. We will re-list Songkran once the official new dates are known.

We'll update the calendar for May once this issue is settled

Government proposes postponing all May holidays

https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/202 ... -holidays/

BANGKOK — Prepare to say goodbye to all holidays next month.

Media reports on Monday said a government meeting chaired by PM Prayut Chan-o-cha agreed to postpone all May holidays until further notice due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The issue will be debated and formally decided at tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting.

If approved, the measure would apply to the National Labor Day on May 1, Coronation Day on May 5, Visakha Bucha on May 6, and the Royal Ploughing Ceremony on May 11.....

Government rejects proposal to postpone May holidays

https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/cri ... -holidays/

BANGKOK — The Cabinet on Tuesday voted down a proposal by the coronavirus taskforce to postpone all public holidays in May.

While rejecting the plan, the Cabinet said members of the public will still be advised to stay indoor.

The proposal was made yesterday in a bid to deter traveling and large gatherings amid the coronavirus outbreak in Thailand.

The measure called for postponing the National Labor Day on May 1, Coronation Day on May 4, Visakha Bucha on May 6, and the Royal Ploughing Ceremony on May 11.

You can have the holidays but can"t celebrate them publicly. I'm going hitch up the water buffalo & plow the living room as part of my home celebration.
