Re: expedia booking
I booked recently for the WSBK in Buriram the hotel couldn't find the booking even when I showed them it on my phone they kept asking me Agoda and I said no Expedia. In the end we got our room after waiting in the lobby for an hour. I think Agoda is far more popular in Thailand I don't use Expedia anymore mostly because of an issue with airline tickets.
Re: expedia booking
Not Expedia's fault. If you received the booking confirmation then so did the hotel. That the hotel manager with the password is not there that week or the staff noticed the confirmation was in English so decided to ignore it, is also not Expedia's fault. Happens all the time in the smaller Thai hotels especially if the booking is made only a few days in advance.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
Re: expedia booking
Expedia are okay but Agoda seems to work better here in Thailand (my personal opinion for what it's worth). If the place you want to stay has their own website if might be worth checking that as prices may be similar. When comparing prices you may find that tax and service is included on the hotels site whereas Agoda will add it on later. By booking direct with a hotel you should be assured that they have the booking in their system.
Expedia should not be a problem for flights or hotels with big international companies. Regardless of who you use it is always worth shopping around to see what deals are available. Look out for things like breakfast being included or date flexibility. I recently found that a similar price deal had different conditions depending on the operator you used.

Not Expedia's fault, but also a reason not to use them.Roel wrote:... is also not Expedia's fault. Happens all the time in the smaller Thai hotels ...
Re: expedia booking
Expedia works well, but as others have said, use Agoda in Thailand.
Re: expedia booking
I had a bad experience with Agoda with a hotel booking in Thailand and a promise of a 'goodwill payment' that never materialised, so switched to Expedia and have never had any problems. I have an account with them, get nectar points and the occasional special discount. When I was in the UK for a couple of weeks last year, I had sufficient to spend in excess of £50 in Sainsburys, gratis! Plenty for a tea bag buying frenzy.

Re: expedia booking
I am quite surprised nobody as mentioned booking.com,i have been using them here in Thailand for 6 years,in addition throughout Europe and the Americas, and never once encountered a problem. This is however only for hotel reservations not flights.I tend only to book flights direct with the airlines, after checking Skyscanner.

Re: expedia booking
I'd go along with booking.com - have used them numerous times without issue - whilst obviously if booking in HH, use the Forum's sponsers. I've done so in the past and always had a decent deal.Thistle wrote:I am quite surprised nobody as mentioned booking.com,i have been using them here in Thailand for 6 years,in addition throughout Europe and the Americas, and never once encountered a problem. This is however only for hotel reservations not flights.I tend only to book flights direct with the airlines, after checking Skyscanner.

Re: expedia booking
I just tried 3 sites and got identical results and not great fares with long stops-- which sites are forumers using?
Re: expedia booking
Why not inform the forum where and when you planning on travelling,,,,,,,,,,,,sure you will then get results!!

Re: Hotel expedia booking
All B2B travel booking systems (booking.com, agoda.com, expedia.com, hotels.com.....etc.) are pretty much all the same and you would be surprised who is affiliated with whom. Hotels are mostly linked to all B2B's and give either the same room rate or discount more depending on the commission each hotel has to pay, which is also linked to the positioning on the B2B webpage.
I suggest to find a hotel you like in your chosen destination and then compare all major B2B's. Don't forget to include the hotels own website in your comparison, as most chains or individual hotels offer a best price guarantee. Reason being they safe on the commission they have to pay to the B2B which can be up to 30%. Classic Travel Agents usually take around 9% commission....
So really hard to say which one is the best, I prefer to book directly as I usually find for myself the best rate and no information is being lost through a third party.
Cheers,
B.

=> hotel.de + hrs.de (company of hrs.com)
