Saw an item on the news (uk) this morning about putting plastic bag charge up to 10p. Also had a brief report about a non-plastic shop - paper bags for self serve grains, nuts, sweets, etc., and bring your own container/bottle for liquids detergents, shampoos, etc. OK for ad hoc purchases, but not practical for large weekly shopping. Perhaps the future is the past (or maybe the past is the future).

My grandparents had not too much money for to make a big shopping tour once a week, what we are doing. Grandma went to the market with her basket and it was half full, when she came back.

When we go to Tesco, we go home with 15 plastic bags...

The water, what they drunk was coming out of the pipe. We buy plasticbottles, because a lot of poison in this water now.

Also the babies in the past had textil diapers.

Would you realy go back about 50 years?
I wouldn't drink the tap water here, but it's still usual to do so in UK, and I believe in other countries also.

WHY? You can say NO! Many people (not enough) do so!

In Asia, the following countries have tap water safe to drink:

Brunei, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.

Most of the safe drinking water is in 'western countries'

10p = 4 baht correct? A survey in the UK--they stood outside a s'market and asked shoppers carrying multiple bags how much they would have to charge to make the bring their own bags ==Average answer 30p.

Would be more easy, with shopping cars, in which you hang in a portable & collapsible basket.

Not quite sure what a shopping car is. When shopping in Tesco, what's wrong with putting your shopping back in the trolley and unloading it into your car. That's what happens in Makro. They have never given out plastic bags, except in the loose food and meat depts. I'm sure in time even those bags can be replaced with something more 'friendly'.

Nice one Tel - the fact is though that 50 years ago we managed without plastic bags so we don’t need to invent anything to do it again, just go back to previous ways of collecting food (paper bags, greaseproof paper) etc.

I see that Morrison's in the UK is introducing a reusable paper bag, with handles for 20p/8Baht. I was surprised to see that with their 10p/6baht charge for plastic bags they have reduced use by 85%
