What would you most like to see new in an HH bar?

What would you most like to see new in an HH bar?

Post by uncle tom »

Much as I like HH, I do feel that the bars tend to be clones of each other with little variation.

- So what would you like to see if a new bar opened in town?

Personally, I would most like to see live music - but unplugged.

I would also like to see bar girls wear an elegant 'house' uniform, rather than dress as tarts.

I would also like to see more theme bars, - but no more dismal apologies for 'Irish'

Over to you!

Excellent topic Unc, I know tons of people who moan about the standards of the bars, they should be better, after all we do spend more time in them than our own homes

Anyways ......
a) A bar where the cleaner was asked to clean the toilets would be nice. Just non-smelling toilets would do, I won't take the biscuit and ask for running water, soap, paper etc.
b) Smart decoration, probably 20% of the bars are, 80% are hideous. It doesn't cost much.
c) Bars that have them to throw away all their 'Now That's What I call Dance Music 199' style CD's, and play something the customers want to hear and not the staff. PC jukeboxes are good, a list on the wall of the type of music available would be a good idea, so customers can ask for it.
d) Bars to have for 2 no. UBC subscriptions (extra 45 Baht/day ??) so you can watch more than one football match/sporting event at the same time.

There's a smart new bar opened down Soi Hot Pot, that's got all the features I would look for in a bar, A/C, multiple tv's & UBC, big screen, pool table/competitions, clean toilets, rooms, smart staff, live music, well decorated (leather sofas etc), decent music.

Be interesting to see if other bars raise their standards too .............

Apologies to any bar owners who do have some of the above features, I know some have nice clean bars and make an effort.

Nice thread, yeah there are a few complaints about bars and as you say most of them are the same and a lot of them are setup merely to give the Thai wife something to do so the owners don't take much interest in them especially now if they're not even allowed to be in them ... but thats another story.

What I would like to see in a new bar...

Music: Yes the jukeboxes are okay but they too are samey since someone seems to have copied one and sold it to all the other bars  It would be nice to see music videos, I know a place in Bangkok that has a wall of classic music vids from The Who to the Sex Pistols to Blondie.

Family: It would be nice to have more bars for families and couples, the ones already here are dull and over priced. Families want some fun too especially if they've spent the whole day with the kids.

Decor: As said above a little effort into the seating, lighting and surroundings, those little round stools are literally a pain in the ass!

Beer Garden: I know space is limited but it would be great to have a private outdoor or roof section where you can relax with a cold one without motorbikes screaming past 2 inches away, dickheads in Benzes trying to get through, 30 minging soi dogs or flower and watch sellers bugging you every 3 minutes.

Have a look at the difference between Thai and Farang bars in town, the Thais like their outside tables and social gatherings and the farangs are all cooped up in holes in the wall!

I hope this thread becomes the wish list for the best bar in Hua Hin. Have to ask why cant owners go in there own bars ????????

An idea to build on, I would like to see an playarea, with toys for children to play in safely and keep them busy so can have both eyes on the TV.

Tables with umbrellas, to stop the rain getting into your drinks when the roof leaks, I would ask for a non-leaking roof but the impossible I will not ask for

Flower/watch sellers :cuss: with you on this one, but you sure it only every 3 minutes i did not think it was that long apart. :cuss: i forgot all about the bikes,

I would like a real sports bar, not just football. Multiply TVs within booths, earphones so you can hear the program. Waitress service on the press of a button, so not having to wait until they have finished talking about last night at the Hilton.

Have to say to

I not seen any of these girls, what type of tart? Strawberry? :guns: May be i go to wrong bars (tell me where please  )

Real themed uniforms that do not change with the weather would be good, so you can tell who works there and not just saying hi to there friend and talking about last night at the Hilton ( I think I am getting a complex about this)

I wait for the place to open.

Not sure about your choice of photos VB - Thailand can lose it's sensesof humour when real time gives way to that of the kite...

If I understand the gist of your post correctly, UT, to put your mind at rest, the hookahs in a shisha bar are for smoking perfumed Middle Eastern tobacco - nought else.
Even some Turkish restaurants in BKK have them.

The problem is that unless you have a big chunk of money to throw away, the return on the investment is so small its not worth doing. If you have a good chunk of money and dont care about making a lot back you can do something really nice. I would love to spend a couple of million on my place but it takes so long to get back.

1. Good beer -- something beyond Singha/Heiniken/Chang/Tiger/Leo/etc.
2. A true international computerized juke box with old and new music
3. Sports on TV that goes beyond old soceer matches
4. A clean bathroom
5. A different look, so you know which bar you are in at the end of the night
6. Good internet connections so you can give real time reports to friends back home

Bar owners reading this might care to take note about the recurrant comments on toilets.

Just because the bar next door has an even filthier loo doesn't excuse yours...

I totally agree that there is a lot of scope for improvement :|
