Thai immigration considers forcing some retirees to show 800k in bank EVERY THREE MONTHS:

Thai immigration is considering forcing some retirees to show a bank statement with 800,000 baht balance every three months.

According to a report by Fabulous 103FM, the move is one of a number of measures being considered by immigration chiefs to stop the practice of foreigners paying back-handers to visa agents to create fraudulent bank statements which are then submitted when applying for retirement visa extensions.

The proposed requirement to show 800,000 baht balance every three months would only apply to foreigners who are unable to show “a suitable monthly income”, the report said.

If the proposals are approved it would be almost impossible for expats who did not meet the financial requirements needed for a retirement extension to remain in Thailand.

You are probably right.
But there are changes on the horizon......see attachment....Specially point 4 is a big change from the present rules.

Yes, I've seen this elsewhere and with a bit more added, but what you have posted sums up the changes. So the 800k has to be there for 5 months now and for the rest of the year must not fall below 400k.

I'm sure there must be some logic in their thinking, but I'm struggling a bit.

I understand the point about tackling the visa agents, but these changes could well penalise a lot of genuine peope who might now struggle. It's taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut

Are you sure about the five months? It could just be a badly worded translation referring to 2 months before first filing and 3 months for subsequent filings. The minimum 400,000 is new though.

The alien can withdraw the funds 3 months after being granted permission to stay and the remaining balance must not fall below 400K

I'm not sure that it can be put down to a bad translation!!

Thinking about it, possibly it's meant to discourage the one day 800,000 balance used by agents to "help" those without the money. How will they check? At the next 90 day report will you have to show your bank book (not convenient for on-line reporting)?

I don't really know, which is why I asked the question! If the countries laws can now be arbitrarily changed by just one policeman, then the future does not look good!
But some of the posted comments are just BS until proven otherwise!
