Couple friendly bars

Post by gillbob »

Hi

Me and my hubby will be on our third visit to Hua Hin later this week.

Although we always have a fab time, we tend to either end up at the Blue Elephant or in the Hilton of an evening. We would like to branch out this year - but am not keen on the pokey little bars in the streets around the hilton. Can you make any suggestions? Also any bars with entertainment would be great.

Thanks
Gill

You'll probably find that any of the bars in HH (even the ones you don't particularly fancy in Soi Bintabaht - I think that's where you mean). will be friendly to both of you. I've never had a problem anywhere & I've been out in a couple, with friends & my mum to many of these places.
For entertainment, it depends on your taste. If you like rock, I recommend J. Gene (Takeang) Pub. It's on the corner of Naresdamri (Hilton) Rd & Soi Bintabaht. Good live rock every night
Have a good time

Gill,I doubt you will ever have a problem in any bar that you drink in Thailand.Thai working girls are not in anyway stigmatised by what they do for a living and to be honest they will always be more interested in talking to you rather than your husband.Conversation generally starts by asking you were you bought your earings so can only comfirm Dawn's comments as being quite correct

If you want to venture further out, the market bar on the night market is a good little family bar.
No entertainment (as in live music), but plenty outside!

My family & I just got back from HH, as mentioned above, even the bars in Soi Bintabaht are family friendly. We went to quite a few in all areas, all were absolutely fine, The Sugar Cane bar especially!

Now come on Russ, THE Stamford Bridge to the Sofitel in HH every couple of weeks takes some doing! However, I will be mightily miffed if someone local has named their house after the hallowed ground before me - that was my idea!!! :)

C'mon, explain yourself!

I've seen several couples visit the Romantic bar and have a good time there.
I liked it myself too.

Never had a problem with taking a farang lady friend to a bar in Thailand eeven the" Bar Beers" on the side streets. One of the best times was taking a well proportioned lady to a Katoey Bar in Bangkok and watching them compare assets!. :thumb:

Who won?

Anyway, I must have been to a different bar.
Once went to a Thai box bar in Bangkok that was loaded with katoey.
I was with a group of about 8 people, men and women and one very attractive woman.
As the men in our group were about the only men in the bar, the katoey got no business at all. They took out their frustration on the very attractive woman in our group. They were very aggressive, even touching her head.

I guess it's how they, the katoeys perceive your actions. The bar I was in had a number of western men being entertained. We (she)were not seen as a threat to their business.

Just as an aside, most katoeys I've met are a lot of fun to drink with. Once you "out" them and everyone relaxes it can be fun. Like most Thai's if you accept them as they are and are not judgemental you can have a hell of a good time in their company.!!!

Holidaying in Hua Hin with my wife, and therefore having to avoid the ‘girlie bars’ (darn), easily the best bar we found was Jungle Juice. It has a nice mix of tourists and ex-pats, and David the owner goes out of his way to both talk to the customers, and introduce them to each other. Makes for a really friendly place, and as a result we were able to get a good feel for what an ex-pat lifestyle might be like – just trying to work out how early we can retire now!

In fact, my wife had been a bit cool towards Hua Hin at first, and discovering Jungle Juice played no small part in our deciding by the end of the holiday that we really liked the place. We’re hoping to return next year.

Although being big fans of Thai food, there was the inevitable urge occasionally for a full English breakfast by way of contrast, and again Jungle Juice’s breakfast was one of the best we found.
