Tires (or tyres)

Post by migrant »

Need to replace the ones on my Toyota Revo. Anyone have any suggestions where to get a fair price. Originals are Bridgestones.

We are up by soi 6 so the closer, the better, but not as important as a good place to go.

Thanks

I drove around many dealers earlier this year comparing prices. In the end, I opted for the place opposite Soi 41 - they gave me the best price for what I wanted. I think they all give a fast efficient service, and it's just price.

They all offer local brands very cheaply, but I've heard bad reports, and didn't want risk it. From memory, some places were wanting >1,000 more per tyre for the exact same item.

Check with Kosol, big place opposite the airport. They even spell "tires" on the bill. :rasta:

I did find Kosol significantly more expensive, but they were throwing in free wheel alignment, which I didn't need, and it would have taken longer. Maybe if they hadn't thrown in the 'free' wheel alignment, their prices would have been more competitive.

Always found Cockpit do a good deal. Often have promotions on specific TYRES.

I do TIRE at looking around for decent priced TYRES!

LOL.

Don't forget to check the date of manufacture of the tyres. It will be a four digit number stamped on the sidewall, first two digits will be week of manufacture (01 to 52), last two digits will be year of manufacture.
Tyres have a shelf life, and a lot of these places will give you a 'new' tyre that may be over a desirable date from manufacture.
Since you will be buying new, they should be anything from three to six months from date of manufacture.
So you should be looking for 1619 (April 2019) up.
Do not accept anything older than this

Tyre supplier

Has anybody got recent prices for replacement tyres for Toyota Vigo.
Mine are coming up to their 4 year life expectancy.
Any comments would be appreciated.

If you're not doing a lot of fast highway driving, I wouldn't do anything yet and simply watch the tires for wear. No reason to change at 4 years if they are still in good condition.

You don't have to be restricted to the name brand and type that the Vigo came with. Price will vary with wheel size and name brand. Again, what type of driving and how many miles a year would dictate if a high end is better than a lower quality.

Things to consider and shopping to be done if they really need replacing.

It's not just the wear and tear in hot countries. Tyres will harden with age so reducing the 'give' in the tyre causing a lack of grip. Braking distances are likely to increase and the rubber can become more porous increasing the risk of low inflation. That makes them as dangerous as a tyre with no tread.
A symptom of aging is tiny cracks in the tread and sidewall. Don't risk the safety of your tyres.

Cockpit on Petchkasem often have 'great deals'. Before taking the deal though, be sure to check the date of manufacture as they often 'promote' old stock.
