Shabby town of Hua Hin

I hear that the other side of the river on the new subway line is one such on-the-up area. Has anybody had chance to explore yet?

I've just walked through the centre of town on Petchakasem, ( I don't like driving around the city so I park on the way in and walk.) and actually, now they've finished all the new sidewalks, it looks a lot better and is more pedestrian friendly so at least things are improving. They just need to sort out that plot by the fishing pier and the back wall of the Wat.
