5 tuna fishing ships went on fire in Phuket waters and hot weather may to be blame. The Phuket City Police received notification at 10.30 on 18 March 2021 about a fishing ship on fire near Laem Ka Beach. Police then notified the local rescue team, the fire station, the Phuket Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and related officials of the fire. Officials arrived at the location and spotted not 1 but 5 ships on fire about 200 meters away from the beach. The fire was spreading onto another fishing ship nearby. The ships were far from shore, so officials moved water pumps into the ocean near where the flames were burning.
Officials inspected one of the ships and discovered it was a large tuna fishing ship originally from Taiwan. The Marine Department had previously seized the ship as it was connected to a case. The ship had been floating in the exact same location for over 10 years. The ship is made from wood and metal and no changes have been made since it was seized. There were no valuable goods stored inside the ship. Officials believe that the hot weather plays a part in the cause of the fire. Officials finally were able to control the fire on all 5 Tuna fishing ships.
Officials from the Central Forensic Science Division have been notified and evidence from all ships affected will be used to find out the true cause of the fire. The remains inside the ship were also collected including electrical wires and batteries that could have started the fire. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident including all officials who worked to put the fire out.

Why would Taiwanese ships be fishing in Thai waters for 10 yrs. and nothing be done about it. Is there an agreement between the two countries for fishing in Thai waters?
