PT Prachuap Grand Prix 2021 scheduled for late January

Post by buksida »

On October 25th, Dr. Sathien Charoenruen, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, presided over a meeting to discuss the prospect of a road racing event – ‘PT PRACHUAP GRANDPRIX 2021’. The meeting was held by Aoom and was attended by all the relevant and necessary people.

The race will be held on a specially adapted track along the Khao Chong Krachok and the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan Bay and is planned to take place between 24th-28th November. Mr. Sarawut Prachamphob, who is a representative from PTG Energy Public Company Limited submitted the plan to host the race and to use the route along Ao Prachuap and Khao Chong Krachok, which will cover a disatnce of roughly 2.3 Km, races will run from November 24th-28th, from 07.30-18.30.

Throughout the competition, lanes will be blocked to allow motorcycles and motorcycle trailers to travel at all times. For cars there will be a temporary bypass route for traffic, and in the event that it is required races would be suspended to allow ambulances to take potential patients to hospital through a new channel created.

At this event, there will also be a mini motor show at the Provincial Stadium, there will be exhibits from various car companies, and there will be a sale of OTOP products, which are community products of traders and entrepreneurs in Prachuap province, this section of the event will run between 25th-28th November from 11.00-21.00.

The organisers of the event are hoping it will generate more than THB 100 million in cash flow for the region, with more than 300 cars participating in the competition and more than 300 shops on site, it is estimated that there will be more than 20,000 people attending the event. Mr. Phromphiriya Kitnuson, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, has asked the competition organisers to present the matter to the Provincial Communicable Disease Committee for permission to approve the staging, in order that it is carried out appropriately within Covid-19 guidelines.

“Each activity must be clearly detailed, including measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, and the effects that may occur in various fields. And most importantly, a list of people who will come to attend the event should be sent to the provincial public health office to check if they have received the full dose of the Covid vaccine within the specified period or not”, Phromphiriya said.

Just a shame foreign visitors won't be allowed to attend such a prestigious event.

Will the expected Bangkokians leave a town where they can legally sit down and enjoy a beer?

Does it say foreigners are not allowed at the event? Just re-read it and couldn't see such, was hoping to go myself!

Taking ones own esky with beer solves that particular problem!

I think it would be just foreign tourists as PKK City isn't on the "approved" places to visit list, yet. Foreign residents can go, in fact, I wouldn't think they would bar entrance to anyone fully vaccinated and the money to buy a ticket.

Yes, I was referring to foreign tourists. Actually, thinking about it, how will they differentiate between a tourist and somebody who lives here? Or is this where our vaccine certificates will come into play?

They really can't unless: 1) They have gate people who are fluent in foreign languages and know Thai visas. (Those checking entrance to your football matches gives an idea how that would go. ) 2) The Mor-xxx app arrivals are forced to download has a red flag or sends up flares when some venue checks it.

I'd forgotten that one. I think I read it is meant to alert authorities if they've strayed out of area for more than 20 minutes. However, wouldn't that require Internet access at all times? If you want to go to the GP, I guess you accidentally forget your phone that day.

If somebody strays out of area, do all people resembling tourists get pulled in for questioning? Just another impractical Thai law that can't be enforced I guess.

We're straying....but it needs to be said that the threat of Covid spreading in Thailand is in no way, shape or form going to be because of foreign tourist arrivals who have been checked, jabbed and prodded infinitum before they got here, and upon arrival. It will be because of the unknowing and unvaccinated locals and migrant workers who come out of the woodwork in hopes of gaining employment from this onslaught of money bearing aliens from afar.

If you've noticed, every publication lately has tried to sow fears of a renewed outbreak "because of the opening to foreign tourists..." The innuendo is for local consumption when it's translated for the Thai News, and conveniently leaves out the fact that they will be the people doing the spreading, not the foreign arrivals. :tsk:

Damn, I was looking forward to that.

Guess covid restrictions may have been lifted by then ... maybe?
