surely by now even people with the most severe learning difficulties will have learnt to avoid 80/94/binta after 9pm if they want a hassle free drink.

102/112/106/takiab all have places that are under the radar
Not sure casual tourists know the ins and outs not HH as well. Can't wait to hear the tourist authorities explanation of what happened. Unless they want to turn HH into a Thai only resort ?

Why TAT ? The PKK governor allowed bars to be open until 01.00 am, so are Police and Army more powerful to decide closure ?

They have been checking the beaches today as well. My son says he's seen them twice this afternoon.

Have the police/local politicians given any explanation. It seems last night they were shutting everyone down SHA certificate or not.
FFS our illustrious PM gave nationwide permission to stay open and serve alcohol till 1 am. He included ALL provinces whether orange, yellow or blue.

Is this a 'police/army' rebellion. Will we get an explanation? Probably not.

The restaurant owners who were open quite legally should make representation to the government.

Do they need to explain? The Government gave the concession to SHA+ restaurants (list derailed above). Very few bars have SHA+, they have SHA. Bars have been taking the P. OK, the BIB have been in hiding for 2 years, but they could have done this weeks ago (I am most definitely not agreeing with the law, but the law was being broken, and they did something about it - for just one high profile day).

It has been like buying a cattle class plane ticket, and complaining that you are not sitting in first class.

The photos showing the BIB on parade with assault rifles show that it was a high profile act for one day only. Status Quo returned yesterday, and bar owners moved back into their first class seats using their cattle class tickets.

^^ Those photos were real? I thought they were a joke . Why would they need to show off combat police with rifles unless it was meant to show threat readiness?

Among those in regular uniform there was certainly a lot of belt overhang.

I guess they were real. You could see it was definitely Hua Hin behind them - I definitely picked out the new golf shop, which dates it as very recent. Of course, anything is possible with Photoshop these days.

Well those SWAT style cops where NOT in action in Soi 94 at least, so if that is real they must have been somewhere else in HH.

Somebody mentioned troops on the beach.

[Edit] I've checked back on the source of the photos, and the source was a local newspaper (that we can't mention here).

Yes, I know one of the owners on 94.

Military turned up at 10pm to close them down. Asked about the believed permission to stay open until 1am and was told no.

Great advert for Thailand for any tourists that witnessed these events.

Didn't hear much this year from where we live contrary to previous years
🍹happy new year 🥂
We could see nearly a dozen different displays in Cha Am from our balcony. There were several along the beach from different hotels and a few up toward the municipal area. Also, almost continuous release of Khom Loy from the beach.
