Food Slang

Post by HHTel »

love braised kidneys on fried bread.
Going back to my navy days when many foods had a 'nickname'.

The above was known as 'Shit on a raft'.

There were more:

Steak and kidney puddings - 'Baby's heads'.
Bacon an eggs - 'Pig and chuckleberries'

I'll delve the deepest memories and come up with more!

I served in the US Navy, and we had our food nicknames too. We had chipped beef on toast, known affectionately as ‘shit on shingles’, hamburgers were called ‘sliders’, even before it became fashionable, and potatoes were ‘Marine brains’. The Navy and Marines had a good-natured relationship about ribbing each other.
