New Hop-on, Hop-off bus service launched in Hua Hin

Post by joelle »

Red Hop-on, Hop-off buses will become a familiar sight on the streets of Hua Hin following the launch of a new service from April 2.

The service, which is set to benefit both tourists and locals, offers unlimited weekend travel for just 300 baht.

The bus travels the length of Hua Hin, stopping at key locations along the way.
Passengers can alight and board the bus from any stop off points using a single ticket.
They will have the freedom to plan their itinerary and use the service as they see fit.
The service operates from 9am with the last stop at 11.32pm, with scheduled hourly stops at each location.

Some of the locations the service stops at includes Hua Hin Airport, the Clock Tower, Cicada Market, Banyan Residences, Market Village and BluPort.

The launch of the service has been made possible because the Hop-on, Hop-off tour company is an official partner of the Phoenix-Plan, which is behind the upgrade to Hua Hin airport.
The Phoenix-Plan is a partnership between the airport and the town and encompasses duty free, loyalty, VIP services and much more.
The service is also supported by WE❤HUAHIN which is an initiative by the Banyan Thailand, Hua Hin.

Seems reasonable to me for unlimited w/e use.

I guess for a single user it’s not too bad, but for say a family of four, it might be cheaper to use a Tuk tuk or taxi?

What about prices during the week - is it 300 baht for a single journey? Are there, for example, monthly travel tickets at a discounted price?

Are these really going to be double decker tour buses as in the pic? Like we really need them on the roads here.

At 300 baht you can use the songthaews 30 times! Before covid there were several companies running various routes. I'm sure they'll sprout up again in time.

The service operates Saturdays and Sundays only, price covers the weekend

I listened to the interview on the radio a few weeks back. The guy was saying it was 300฿/week, but then went on to say it would only operate on a Saturday and Sunday.

I'm assuming on that route, there will only be one bus running.

I did see a bus stating something like, 'Hua Hin - Hop On, Hop Off' running around town after the radio interview. I'm not sure if it was just a promotional thing, but it was a lot smaller than the one in the photo.

Has to be at least 2 busses to meet the timetable of one per hour.

Yes, you're right, I had driven the route mentally in my head, and thought it was easily achievable in an hour, but I see they allow 1 hour 32 mins. If it's operating at weekends, sheer volume of traffic will incur the extra time. I tend to avoid those routes at weekends.

I don't think locals will use it. Same road as songthaew who are much more easy to take, cheaper and more frequent. The guys who create this service think about the business model ?

The most important question - are the buses air-conditioned?

It'll be interesting to see how the bus tackles the no right turn as it goes up Soi 88 and turns towards the railway station. Will it be achieved Thai (I didn't see the road sign) style, or will it become no right turn except for buses? I can't see the monstrosity in the photo handling the mini-roundabout.

Well obviously they've tested the route. Do you think these people are amateurs? [/sarc]
