Not speaking from experience but his sign outside says:
Eye and Retina check-up
Cataract
Glaucoma
Macular Degeneration.
You beat me to it. I was going to say exactly the same thing.
I will be led by my own experiences and I am more than satisfied by the treatment I receive from Dr. P. My 2nd cataract op, now undertakem by the good Doctor at Bkk hospital, needed a non regular lens fitting, due to an astigmatism. He spent ages using his specialist equipment to map out the size and shape for my replacement lens.
I'm not complaining about Dr. Pairat, just pointing out that though he is a specialist in some aspects, he may not be in others.
All I can say is that Dr. Pairat suspected glaucoma in one of my eyes, based on intra optic pressure and a retinal picture, which he printed for me to take to one of two retinal specialists which he recommended. Of course it's perfectly possible that he could diagnose an obvious glaucoma developed past a certain stage but that could depend on the precision of his imaging equipment.
However in my case he wasn't able to say for sure and he very reasonably sent me to a doctor (Dr. Sirinun) specializing in retinal problems more than himself. It would be very unreasonable to expect a private ophthalmologist in Thailand (outside Bangkok) to have a full range of diagnostic equipment. Indeed Dr. Sirinun sent me to a hospital to get a full range of checks using, I think, 7 different devices (one of which I hope never to encounter again).
I would still go to see Dr. Pairat (when my present eye problem - see below - has been sorted out) for check-ups and vision tests with which I have always been very happy. I believe that he is also an excellent lens (of the eye) specialist and cataract surgeon. His eye glasses prescriptions have always been spot on.
Just to finish off. My other eye also had a problem (still does) which Dr. Pairat suspected as being Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), even more scary than glaucoma. Again, he couldn't be sure. Dr. Sirinun diagnosed this as being CSC (offhand I can't remember the actual full name). Apparently AMD and CSC (and other conditions) may appear very similar to basic diagnostic equipment. Dr. Sirinun sent me to Bangkok for further diagnosis using equipment unavailable in Hua Hin (neither HHH nor BH; San Paolo was not mentioned). Fortunately, unlike AMD, CSC is treatable and can even recover without treatment.
I'm very happy that we have doctors available who don't think so much of themselves that they believe they're always right without referring to someone more specialized and/or with better diagnostic equipment.
