That was a good idea :? As well as burning easily, I'd guess the foam produced very toxic smoke.

I wouldn’t normally watch something like this but I did and yes it’s horrific and even worse, nobody looks to be trying to help those who are in flames.

Yes, that was unfortunately very noticeable on Channel 3 news video this morning. People in uniforms either security or rescue just walking around in circles as people in flames coming out of the front of the building. No clue what to do...zombies.

These days, people find it far more important to video all and get their place on "Social Media" rather than help others. The "Scum of the Earth" seems to be a growing party!! :banghead:

A very unfortunate trait of modern life. Everybody is too busy videoing the horror to even consider help somebody in trouble.

Inferno pub illegally built, operated

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... t-operated

The pub that burned down early Friday morning, killing 14 people and injuring 34 others, was illegally built and operated.

Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda said the Mountain B pub, in Chon Buri's Satthahip district, did not have a pub licence and was built in an area where entertainment venues were prohibited.

“Officials are checking details of the building, including its design, construction materials used, control systems and fire exits. I told them to find the cause of the fire and the people responsible for it,” Gen Anupong said in Bangkok.

Pol Maj Gen Atthasit Kitjahan, commander of Chon Buri police, said the premises were licensed to operate as an eatery, and had been illegally altered and used as an enclosed entertainment place.

He said the building was almost completely destroyed - its interior structure and decoration, soundproofing, stage and ceiling tiles. Police attempted to inspect the place late on Friday morning, but had to withdraw when the fire briefly flared up again.

Investigators had questioned the staff and owner of the pub, eyewitnesses and the electrician who was earlier hired to repair the building's power system, he said.

The fire at Mountain B on Sukhumvit Road in tambon Phlu Ta Luang of Chon Buri’s Sattahip district erupted about 1am on Friday, when more than 100 customers were still inside.

Witnesses said the blaze was first noticed on the roof, and spread quickly through the soundproofing foam.

Fourteen people people were confirmed killed in the blaze and 34 others injured, according to the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office in Chon Buri, down from early reports of 40-41 injured.

Among those killed was singer Chatchai Chuenkha, 30. His mother Premjai sae Ung said he normally sang at open-air venues.

She quoted his friend as saying that her son was singing when there was an explosion behind the stage. He could not escape the flames.

“My son was a breadwinner. Someone must be held responsible for this,” she said.

Sattahip district chief transferred after pub inferno

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ub-inferno

CHON BURI: The Sattahip district chief was quickly transferred in the wake of the Mountain B pub fire that killed 14 people and injured 34 others early Friday morning.

The Department of Provincial Administration on Friday ordered the transfer of Sattahip district chief Chartchai Sripho-on to the department head office, Chon Buri deputy governor Naris Niramaiwong said.

He gave no further details, but the announcement followed statements by the interior minister and provincial police chief that the pub was unlicensed and operating illegally in an area not zoned for entertainment.

The deputy governor led officials to inspect the scene of the blaze at the Mountain B pub on Sukhumvit Road along Bang Na-Trat route in tambon Phu La Tuang of Sattahip district.

Mr Naris ordered officials at the fire-gutted pub to stay vigilant for possible dangers that may arise, but did not explain. The inferno caused a huge loss, he said.

Fourteen people were killed and 34 others injured, according to the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office in Chon Buri. by the fire that started about 1am in the crowded Mountain B pub.

Footage showed people fleeing for safety, screaming as flames and smoke billowed from the building. Some were seen running with their bodies engulfed in flames.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Friday he had ordered officials to check the safety standards of pubs nationwide and prevent such a tragedy happening again.

“Today I ordered all organisations concerned to find those responsible and help the affected people as soon as possible,” the prime minister said.

“We must be more careful on such issues, especially business operators and officials, because the pictures will be forwarded internationally and greatly damage confidence.”

Ah yes, mustn't damage confidence.

Prayut wants swift pub fire action

Orders second probe into Chon Buri blaze

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ire-action

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered another investigation into the Chon Buri pub fire that killed 14 people and injured 36 others after an initial probe found the establishment had been illegally altered and operated.

The inferno started at about 1am on Friday at the customer-packed Mountain B pub, according to police.

Ten men and four women died in the fire, all of them local residents, police said.

Four charred bodies were found behind the front door of the one-storey building, three in a men's restroom, one at a DJ booth and five at a cashier's booth, police said, adding another victim later died in hospital.

Mountain B covers an area of 3 rai along Sukhumvit Road in the province's Sattahip district.

The blaze is reminiscent of the Santika pub fire in Bangkok, which occurred during a Jan 1, 2009 New Year's Eve countdown. Sixty-six people were killed and more than 200 others were injured then.

Gen Prayut on Friday expressed sympathy for the victims of the Mountain B pub fire. He said he has instructed authorities to inspect the damage and take care of the injured and the relatives of the dead.

"Authorities have been ordered to find the cause of the incident and bring the culprit in for punishment," he said. "This incident is similar to the Santika pub fire in Bangkok."

He also stressed the need for pub operators to comply with rules and regulations governing the construction and modification of buildings.

"The Interior Ministry, provincial governors and police have also been ordered to make sure similar incidents do not occur in the future," he said.

Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda said the initial probe found Mountain B did not have a pub licence and it was built in an area where entertainment venues were prohibited.

"Officials are checking the details of the building, including design, construction materials used, control systems and fire exits," he said. "I told them to find the cause of the fire and [identify] the people responsible for it."

Pol Maj Gen Atthasit Kitjahan, commander of Chon Buri police, said Mountain B was licensed to operate as an eatery but had been illegally altered and used as an entertainment place.

He said the building was almost completely destroyed -- with its interior structure, decoration, soundproofing, stage and ceiling tiles engulfed by the blaze. Investigators have questioned the staff, owner, eyewitnesses and an electrician recently hired to repair the building's power system, he said.

Pol Maj Gen Chaipoj Suwanrak, deputy commander of the Provincial Police Region 2, said another probe found that no circuit breaker was installed in the pub and there were only two fire extinguishers -- which was disproportionate to the pub's space.

Pongsiri Panprasong, the 27-year-old pub owner, said it opened about two months ago and he submitted a request to operate as a pub on June 13.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt on Friday said he had instructed city officials to step up the inspection of nightlife outlets across the capital as a precautionary measure amid tourists returning to visit.
