This always was going to be a no win situation. Lockdowns were there for protection against covid. Without them there would have been many thousands more deaths from covid. The consequences of that meant that the NHS were so overwhelmed as to put medical detection and treatment of such as cancer on the back burner.
It was already expected that non-covid deaths would increase because of lockdowns.

Lockdowns were certainly required to curb the covid pandemic. (see Spanish 'flu'):

Flu cases continued to mount until finally, on October 3, schools, churches, theaters, and public gathering spaces were shut down. Just two weeks after the first reported case, there were at least 20,000 more.

A decision had to be made. Allow covid to run rampant killing untold numbers of people, or fight covid resulting in an increase of non-covid deaths. Ideally both could be addressed but that was impossible.

I think they made the right decision.

It could be argued that if more people took the vaccination then the health care wouldn't have been so stretched.

The brave few kept the flag of personal freedom alive. That really is no exaggeration. And they paid heavily for it. On social media the abuse was intense. You don’t care about lives! they snarled. You’re murderers! they claimed. And in the mainstream, things weren’t much better. You’re a “small, disproportionately influential faction,” moaned a Guardian Leader, that “denies the virulence of the virus”. Thanks for that.

1. Are you simply a wind-up merchant looking for a reaction from others online?
2. Are you one that get's pleasure in the "Wind Up" of others?
3. Simply clueless of the the world that we live in?

Well, I for one would like to thank Huahin61. Until he started this thread, with his well-reasoned arguments and impeccable sources, I had no idea how easily deceived I was. I feel rather foolish now, being lied to by friends and neighbours who work for the NHS...

I am now waiting for HH61 to show that there is no war in Ukraine, just a little military operation to denazify the country, whose citizens are gratefully lining the streets throwing rose petals in front of the tanks.

Huahin61 should be thrilled to know that there is a new vaccine for the latest Covid variant, that will enter the market without human trials. We don't need no stinking human trials for this new treasure of Sierra Madre.

Thanks Pete, I had no idea. The “Active Topics” page is my bookmark into the forum. I was actively following the “Did Covid Happen ?” thread when it first started, then it appeared that it just disappeared. I was amazed to stumble upon it again and see its now 6+ pages long ! Is it a glitch that it doesn’t appear in Active Topics ? What is FOO ?

Look at the forum Home Page and The Lounge is the last section at the bottom. Foo is in there and it's purpose is: "This is the free for all area, live and unleashed, say what you like!"

It could be a glitch, we'll advise more later. The forum software is in the process of a re-write but it's a rather long process.
