Beetroot

Post by Nereus »

Can somebody please explain the following:

I like beetroot, and it is reportedly a healthy product. I mean canned beetroot, not fresh or raw.

For years I was buying a good German product at BigC, packed in a glass jar and at a reasonable price, until they suddenly stopped stocking it. I then found a Heinz product, albeit whole "baby" beetroot, not sliced as the product usually is. Again packed in glass at a reasonable price. For at least the last year that has been listed as "temporarily out of stock"!

Now the following is being advertised regularly online:

https://th.ninelife.com/products/baxter ... 54EALw_wcB

Price reduced from: 4,228 Baht!

Thanks Pete, I think that is the one that I tried previously and it was revolting! Different brand that I was buying at BigC, although German.

Have you tried Lazada? They seem to have a couple of brands reasonably priced, but maybe not what you like?

AP interfoods in Hua Hin sell Thurstons sliced beetroot. Not had it myself, but my (Thai) other half likes it.

I know you said, not fresh or raw, but I have been getting fresh raw beetroot from Foodland and blending them with apples and carrots (aka ABC) with a bit of Thai lime for flavour.
Mum back in Singapore used to use that canned beetroot in salads, but was much less 'earthy' in flavour then the fresh variety.
Might be worth a go with the fresh stuff?

Yes, I have looked looked, but a bit of gamble as I really don't like to just order 1 pack to try.

Nereus, this one seems to be populating the various Expat Shops in the country at the moment. Possibly bought from the below source.

Thanks Pete. It is marked "out of stock", and has been for some time.
Even the rubbish at Villa Market is no more.
