I'm planning to go to the UK later this year so thinking I might wait to see an authorised Rolex dealer.....thanks again for all the responses

I'd check in advance what the turnaround time is for a service / repair in the UK. It could easily be 2-3 months.

Bearing in mind what Phyton has said, which was a surprise to me, but I respect his knowledge in that matter, why don't you just check with Rolex in any case? It could save you a lot of time and hassle. (Edit - I meant the policy might have changed).

The reason I say a surprise, is that the swatch group (Omega, Blancpain, Breguet et al), also have their own repair centre in Bkk, and they don't place any restrictions on repairing a watch bought elsewhere.

My first Rolex was the Reference 17014 Oysterquartz, and one time in Cha-Am the batterie got emty, it was not possible to change in Bangkok, because this Reference wasn´t sold in Thailand

Blimey, when was the last time Rolex produced a quartz watch?

Pretty much spot on, last produced in 2001, some limited availability until 2003. A chap on a watch forum I use has one. Only 25k produced over 25 years. Seems he's on a nice little earner. Considering Rolex now mass produce over 1 million watches annually, that's a drop in the ocean.

The Rolex 'story' now is gettind a tad ridiculous in that it's impossible to buy one. 2 weeks ago Rolex at Swampy didn't have a single watch for sale, at Heathrow they had ONE due to a customer not turning up! All of the watches in the window were not for sale. Imagine what those rents are and not a watch for sale.

I am registered at numerous sites (waiting list) - I know there's virtually no chance of being called and if you're after a Daytona you're probably looking at a 10 year wait minimum! For some models they've even closed off the waiting lists without a watch being sold yet (Oyster Perpetual)

Reading a lot of forums Rolex are pushing the 'exclusivity' thing too far and I think will cost them in the end. Authorised dealers are in on it, and Rolex need to root those that are out and take away their dealership! Flippers should also be found (apparently there are active Rolex teams trying to identify who online flippers are) and ban them from ever buying another. But when some models are virtually doubling in price as soon as you've got it out of the shop who wouldn't be tempted I guess.

Actually, the price for pre-owned luxury and Rolex watches are starting to fall after ever rising increases over the last few years, as you mention. I just wished I'd had the foresight to see this when I had the opportunity to buy a limited release anniversary model back in 2014, from Gowlings, in the covered market in Oxford. On sale for 5.7k. I could have made more than double that, but it didn't do anything for me on the wrist (same with all Rolex actually). Never entered my head to buy it as an investment.

Flippers should also be found (apparently there are active Rolex teams trying to identify who online flippers are) and ban them from ever buying another. But when some models are virtually doubling in price as soon as you've got it out of the shop who wouldn't be tempted I guess.

A group of my younger colleagues have been doing exactly that in Europe over the last couple of years, they pooled some money and order Rolex watches purely to sell for profit when they finally arrive. They've no interest in the watches beyond the monetary gain.

I thought that Rolex have never used a battery in a wristwatch ?? The watch incorporates a device which self winds the watch through the natural motion of the wearers arm.....but maybe I'm wrong.....

It surprised me as well but as pointed out in a post above, they did actually make an Oysterquartz model for about 20 years until 2021. I had a look online and they're quite collectable as not many were sold.

Good call. What about Franck Muller, Baume & Mercier and Ulysse Nardin, any idea he can? Would he be able to source seals, winding pinion (if bent), crown, etc? Or is he Rolex only?

Why? They may advertise repairs to other European brands. I think you've actually made the point that the forum is the place to ask first. And surely he could tell me if English is spoken, otherwise personally I'm unlikely to entrust them with valuable pieces if they can't tell me what they're doing.

Well I did say there was no harm in asking, however I’d be surprised if he knew the answers to your specific questions, other than the English one!! Anyway, it’s generated a lot of answers that have provided useful information that I hope you find helpful.
