Bangkok Airways applies now weighing passengers before boarding

Post by Big Boy »

This is one for overweight passengers like me to keep an eye on in case it leads to higher costs. Especially if additional charges are to be applied.

The last time I was weighed before flying was a Cessna in 1981. I didn't have to pay more, but I had to sit up front with the driver. I'll never forget the flight. There was a lot of turbulence, and to this day I still get flashbacks of reaching for the spare steering wheel to steady myself - stopping about a centimetre from actually grabbing it.

The airline said the weighing will be done at the departure gate before boarding and it is seeking cooperation from all passengers.
Typical arse about Thai way! The weight needs to be entered on the flight manifest, which is SUPPOSED to be completed and given to the captain long BEFORE any passenger gets anywhere near the departure gate!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Back in the 70's I was boarding a flight from Kathmandu to Rangoon. As it was a warmer than usual day the pilot needed to reduce the payload in order to get enough thrust for take off. He came thru the cabin weighing each of us and adding and subtracting stuff on his trusty slide rule and in the end kicked off a bunch of protesting passengers who were mainly large Indians.
The pilot backed our little twin prop whatever it was right up to the end of the airstrip said a prayer and booted hell out of it.Fortunately we got up and away.
Sadly a couple of years later a Thai Airways flight was lost on that airstrip
Complexity is so simply overrated
