My Tripadvisor review for Alberto, new Italian restaurant

Post by 404cameljockey »

My Tripadvisor recommendation for the new Italian restaurant in Naebkehardt Road:

Drive down Soi 53 from Petchkasem Road and when you reach the crossroads turn left to find Alberto right there. There is always ample street parking in Naebkehardt Road. I was in a party of three who dined at Alberto just six days after their opening, but it certainly wasn't a 'soft opening', everything was very much a flawless dining experience, with the exception of prawns being substituted for the lobster (which had not arrived) for the tagliatelle, but the dish was still wonderful. All courses were certainly as good as the food in the five star restaurants I ate in for many years in Dubai, beautifully presented, and the decor of the place is excellent with tasteful arched alcove murals on one wall, although we ate on the terrace at the front as it's the cold season and this road is very quiet and wide enough to allow for a feeling of space. There is a full wall of real (not plastic) flowering plants on one side of the terrace and the ceiling lights are obviously very expensive floral (not real) chandeliers. No expense has been spared in setting up this restaurant, it's clear; the table have 3cm thick marble tops and are practically immovable. Although the beef cheek I ate (available only by preorder) was soft as butter, the knife I was given for my main course was Laguiole. Really, say no more....

For me dining at a very good restaurant is as much about the experience being as enjoyable as the food, life has taught me that.

The main course specialties are raviolis with several unusual fillings, although there are a wide choice of very flavoursome sounding and even intriguing dishes for all courses (even pizza if you must). The beef cheek which I ate is by special preorder (it takes four hours to cook), I was lucky that it had already been preordered by another diner, and as I had mentioned to Alberto that I had been hoping to see osso bucco on the menu, he suggested this alternative. The desserts we selected (panna cotta and tiramisu) were large enough for two to share. There is also a selection of well-chosen Italian cheeses. I only tried the Italian red wine served by the glass which was a Primitivo and excellent. I asked after Gavi di Gavi (a fine white) which he does not keep, but says he has an excellent similar Italian wine and I certainly believe him. The espresso coffee seems some sort of nectar, I don't mean that it was very sweet but I think maybe it came from heaven. I asked Alberto to consider for the future offering the option of serving limoncello in frozen shot glasses (they have a machine which freezes glasses in seconds) as although the delicate glasses they use are beautiful, I don't enjoy warm limoncello.

Alberto (not 'Alberto's) is worth your time, and I expect to see it at the top of the list of excellent Italian restaurants in Hua Hin before long.

Nice review, sadly Italian restaurants aren't my favourite thing, but I will check out the menu. I was surprised to hear you say there is always ample parking in that area, as that's not really my experience. It can be very hit and miss.

Edit: Okay, having checked the large menu, there are a few dishes there that, over and above the norm, that really appeal. A tad expensive, but if good, why not?

Strange, I've always found it easy to park there in the evening. The restaurant will be a one off for me, too expensive although half as much as I used to pay in Dubai, Thailand really is still cheap.

As a special treat, it’s still cheap by non-Thai standards so a place to consider for a special occasion!!

Just for info, TripAdvisor haven't published my new restaurant listing and my separate review yet as they're still waiting for Alberto to confirm that the restaurant exists. :)

Looks very nice, thanks for posting.

Gmap reviews are a bit suspect (all 5s), as 4 out of 5, all posted this week past, and those contributors, had 3 or less reviews ... hmm

Well, I was so impressed that I thought I'd like to give them some publicity as they're only recently opened, I've never added a new restaurant to TripAdvisor before, although I do review sometimes.

TripAdvisor now say they will publish it soon, as I gave them the link to Alberto's Facebook page.

Did you check the menu online? If so where did you find it? Thanks

A full menu - all 8 pages of it - is available on their fb page

Looks great and we could walk there in 2 mins, we’re only down the road and what 404 said about the road is true. Quiet at night and easy to park.
Italian food is our favourite out all European countries for food and Alberto menu look great.
Wishing them all the best and hope they do well.
We’ll definitely give it a go when next in Hua Hin. 👍
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Went last night, after reading 404cameljockey’s post. Still a soft opening and few tweaks needed but I can honestly say the veal cheeks were the best I’ve had anywhere in the world. Absolute perfection. My friend enjoyed her lamb ragu, the wine was good (and not a huge mark-up) and I'm still drooling over those cheeks.
