Makro staff .. Please help?

Post by Don East Stand »

Hi, :)

This is a request for any forum members, their friends, families or anyone who shops in Makro, to please be considerate and help the checkout operators.

Approximately 3 weeks ago, my wife (farang) bought a few items in Makro and handed over 1000 baht to the male checkout operator.

Upon checking her change she noticed she was 100 baht short. She reported it to security and returning to checkout, she was quickly given her 100 baht. :o

More recently, maybe 10 days ago, she was once again in Makro for a few items.

She noticed that the same male checkout operator was available ......

She handed over 1000 Thb ........ Once again she was 100 baht short in her change! :cuss:

She reported it to the "Customer Service" desk and the assistant there quickly went to the checkout operator with my wife. Once again she was quickly given the 100 baht with no questions asked. The checkout operator was "very sorry, madam, sorry"

On one occasion, yes, it could be a genuine mistake :-| however on two occasions in the space of ten days?

So, despite the tills being set up to show exactly how much change you should be given, there appears to be more training required.

Please help these poor checkout out operators to keep their jobs, please check your change carefully, especially if handing over a 1000 Baht note.

Also be aware that there may be a distraction technique being used, e.g. they may place the receipt into your hand to disrupt your change counting etc.

As mentioned this is two occasions the the last few weeks, however it is at least the fourth time that this has happened to my wife in Makro.

Never had a problem with cashiers at Makro, although I don’t ever remember being served by a male, always female. My experience has been that they check the change at least twice, sometimes three times before handing it to you!!

Which Makro HH or Pranburi?

It seems like that security guard in Makro who scrutinizes your shopping and receipt would be more usefully employed checking your receipt and change!

I also was 100 Baht short in my change earlier this year. First time in 7 years there though. I've never seen a male checkout in Makro HH either, does he wear the spine protection belt too?

I never have enough cash to pay the bill in Makro. :duck:

They won't accept K-bank cards so I use the app to scan the code and pay it that way.

Hi,

An update on my original post. :(

Yes, it's happened yet again, 5th time this year to my wife, (farang) which bearing in mind she was out of the country for 5 months of the year! :cuss:

Exactly the same scenario, she hands over a 1000 baht note and was short changed by 100 baht.

To say she wasn't pleased is an understatement! She went to the "Customer Service" area demanding to see the "manager". Surprise surprise he wasn't there.

As always there was no question about the 100 baht been given to my wife.

I really cannot believe that they are picking on my wife, so please be aware!! :thumb:

To answer a few questions raised following my original post. The male "checkout" operator was actually behind a computer screen in the Customer Service area on this occasion. Interestingly, this time it was a female operator, who had previously been on the till when it happened.

This is Makro Hua Hin branch.

It is a good option to pay using whatever app you have on your phone, however there are still a few dinosaurs like us old foggies who haven't, or refuse to move with the times. :rasta:

When the cashier totals up your items the total price is quite clear to see on the screen at the side of the till. once you hand over your cash (assuming it is more than the total), the amount of your change you should get is shown on the same screen. The cashier counts out your change in front of you, before you take the change make sure it is correct, if not sure ask cashier to count it out again, once happy take your change and wait for your receipt.
As for the people checking you receipt at the door the last time I shopped at Makro they found I had been overcharge for a 6 pack of water, so they went off to get me one.

It’s actually pretty straightforward as Geko says, the electronic till shows the total, how much you’ve paid and how much change - not too difficult to check everything before you walk away.

As far as I'm aware I've never been short changed at Makro. I've also never seen a male checkout.
Now I pay everything by QR code so change is no longer a problem.
