It may not be the number, but the fact that they have not laid any line to the house/development. I know many who have bought new houses in new developments, both in Pattaya and Bangkok, and waited 9-12 months for service. You can get around this by walking into the phone office with a wad of cash and saying you'll pay for the entire line run from the spot where it has stopped, up to your house. Sometimes poles are involved as well. Of course, other home owners there will benefit as well. If they are straight up people, maybe they'll reimburse some of the cost.

I've never heard of the internet issue. If you have a working phone, you have dial up. Pete

Two points here; I wanted an ADSL connection which I was told is affected by distance from the server; the other is that it was not on a development and the house opposite already had both phone line and ADSL! The cabling was already there. The specific answer I was given was that TT&T have no numbers, and it was a 'dead man's shoes' situation - you can only get a new phone line/number if someone terminates theirs.

It's so hard to tell sometimes when you speak to one person and then another you get some terrificly different stories. If I am wrong I am sorry it was something Iwas told.

Anyway WiFi would probably be a better option if you don't have lines or numbers available. I must say don't complain about the internet in Thailand and Hua Hin in particular. I'm back in Oz and the service here is disgusting. You may or may not get a cell for your phone at any time of day and you may or may not have internet connection (ADSL) as it falls out from underneath you all the time. It's pathetic. I didn't have nearly this much trouble in Hua Hin.

Wanderlust is correct regarding TT&T, however it is possible to move a number to a different location but youn would need the owners permission.

Bribery can move you up the list.

There are no more number left available in the area which extends from Petchburi right down the Eastern seaboard to Chumphorn. There is no plan to add another digit to landlines yet as landline use is on the decline. What you need to do if you insist on using TT & T is to find someone who has a number allocated but does not use it and make them an offer. Stricltly speaking you need the house owners permission to install but I don't think TT & T bother to check as is it so easy top remove it if the owner complains.

What I do not understand is why they require you to have a land line number to install ADSL. The same cable is use but it does not have to be used by both. I belive it is just a marketing policy to get you to spend more money on the "free phone" that you actually get billed from TOT for.

Anyway is it also true that TOT have run out of numbers. It is my understanding that they have more control over allocation of numbers and are aware of unused connections. I.e they have a number but do not send any bills then they know that number is potentially available.

Personally I have had no dealings with TOT directly so cannot comment any further. I am sure that there are many on this site that can.

It is worth seraching this site though. This subject has come up at least twice in the last year with satallite being mentioned aswell.

I get a good wi-fi signal from sunshine internet but it can drop out sometimes if the weather is iffy. I am up by Rockestra (as was)

OK, tagged this onto this thread rather than opening a new topic. I'm aware that internet connections have been pretty cr@p all over, due to the Taiwan earthquake, but mine (loxinfo package dial-up) is always very slow.
This is particularly annoying when trying to update our website. I've never been able to upload digital pictures onto it, as my connection is too slow (56kbps at best, often 48kbps), but now, I can't even upload text without getting a "Gateway Timeout" notice.
Obviously, it's time to make a change to something that can at least cope with my modest demands - being able to upload pics & text & not wait 3 mins for a page to download when I'm on a forum. Oh, and to be able to actually view the Youtube links & hear Surf FM would be good!! But, what would be best? And where do I get it from? And how much does it cost? If geography is important, I'm in Khao Pitak, just before Dusit Land 8.

Appreciate any suggestions.

I complained to csloxinfo about the bad connections I kept getting and they gave me this new number to try, I've had very few bad connections since.

CS lox have several numbers: 032529999, 032529606, 032529600, give them a try.

Broadband is supposed to be better than dialup however we have found that this usually isnt the case in Hua Hin!

Have a read through some of the threads on ADSL in this section for a guide, nothing much has changed!
