Macca Buddha Day

Post by Gus »

Maybe the spelling is not spot on but you know what i mean.
I will be in HH in February, when is Macca Buddha day in 2007?

I know bars have to close and hotels hike up their rates. :guns:

I bought a 2007 diary this morning and can therefore answer your question.

Makha Bucha Day falls on Saturday, 3rd February 2007. Monday, 5th February will be a Public Holiday but the bars will be closed (one assumes) and the temples will be full on the Saturday.

Sorry to be flippant, but I'm having trouble with today let alone a point in the future.
BTW, buy a Thai calendar. They're usually pretty good at telling the lunar months. I'd reckon Macha Buddha day coincides with a full moon.
No exact date, but there will be a party.

Cheers guys, oddly enough I went in almost every shop in Leicester (UK) yesterday asking if they sold Thai calendars, you now know my trip was unsuccessful.
So the HHAD forum comes to my rescue

My main reason for asking the date is that Hotels and Guesthouses get fully booked pretty quick for Thai holidays, I found this out in Na Jomtien for the Kings Birthday.

Maybe the moderators could post a 'Thai Holiday' link so other Farangs do not keep asking about holidays and bar closures.

I fully understand people who live in Thailand worrying just about today, after all yesterday is in the past, and tomorrow is in the future. :thumb:

Thank you very much.

I stand corrected.

I shall now be taking my diary back and attempting to get a refund - or do I need new glasses?

Is it important that the Bars will be closed?

I can picture you both running for the Diary and then back to your PC.
Did you log a time or perhaps next time, could be a Hua Hin Competition?

Not really, but it is important, not only from the point of view of the religion and whether bars will be open, but also to remember that it's a public holiday, so banks will be closed, government offices will be closed, loads of Thais will be coming to HH etc etc. Makes it a bit easier to plan ahead if you know when the date is.
My wife normally gets me a Thai calendar from a shop. She just hasn't done so yet.
So, skandii, not a competition, just a reasonable attempt by some to answer the OP's question.

My wife gets hers sent 'free' every year from the Thai Temple in Birmingham. If you really want one, PM me and I'll send you details.

Big Boy, thanks to Lev I am OK now.

Lev, Great work, I just hope people use it now you have gone to the trouble of posting the details.

FWIW The 3rd March suits my plans better.

It is important to me regarding bar closures, if the bars close I have NO ladies shouting to me that I am Hansum, I then feel velly insecure.
