Thai biker gets a 'slap'.

Post by usual suspect »

Did anyone winess the bike-smash somewhere near U-turn bar over
Xmas?
Seemingly a Thai man on his 'clunk' was involved in a low-speed head on dink with another bike outside Bintabaat's 7/11.
The culprit backed up a little, and with a fist-full O revs shot down the Soi like s**t off a shovel.....narrowly missing families walking with kids. His speedy dash ended when he slammed (again) into an oncoming bike!
The word is (I hear) that before the mad git could get up off the road, and onto his feet, a Farang who saw it all marched outa a nearby bar &
gave him a proper 'right-hander' as a reward for the mindless stunt.

Question....
Do we condone the act of the Farang or do we praise him and try
make these dumb-s*** aware that tearing down a street full of
tourists does have hidden dangers?
(this Soi is never patroled by police ['cept closing time], but as tourists
are we just guests and the bike-lads have more right to be there
than us??)

Am I opening up a new can 0 worms about 'boy-racers' on their 'sit & screws' and their antics that bug you all daily??

Best to keep out of such things as a farrang, there is a good chance the Thai will return with a crew or worse still a weapon.
But big up to the farrang the idiot on the twist and go deserved a thump

That's the problem. You are both correct. The thing is many people don't know the dangers and many nationalities will bring children here. The TAT are actively trying to promote Hua Hin as family friendly.

Bintabaht can often appear to be a pedestrian zone. The problem is not just Bintabaht though, I have had some close calls in Poolsuk.

The system in Pattaya works well. After a certain time no motor vehicles are allowed in Walking Street. It took a while, and was a pain in the arse for bar and restaurant owners at the start but is has made the place safer.

I would be in favor of many of the side soi's being pedestrianized. Even on a small bike, a lot of damage can be done. Tourists particularly, and also drunken locals, often just wander out into the middle of the road without a thought of a vehicle approaching them from behind.

As for the OP's original mention. There was an incident reported in that area either Christmas day or St. Steven's Day but I only heard it in Thai on a radio so was unable to get details. No farang involvement was mentioned but a motorcycle number was broadcast.

I also strongly agree with the advice given above. If you are a farang keep out of any situations like that involving Thais. You may get away with it and be thanked. Much more likely though your good intentions will backfire on you.

I have always thought that soi binterbart should be closed off to all but walking traffic from midday until 01:00 when the bars close, this would give any bar or shop plenty of time to restock or whatever they had to do. People could then walk up and down the soi without fear of being skittled over by some kamikaze bike or car driver. Its not hard to go round it, is it....

Just maybe it has something to do with the fact that us old bar owners didn't get to bed until 6am or so, and in those days it was 24 hrs. Full on. No quarter given.
It's a tourist town after all. The only time we were awake was whenever the lorry arrived outside and announced their presence.
"S..., who's turn is it to get out of bed?"

I agree with everything that has been said about closing streets to traffic at certain hours. It is common practice in the UK especially at weekends where revellers are in danger of being run over after a skinfull for police to cordon off areas that may be suspect

However TIT, cannot see it happening in the forseeable future

I'm probaly now being stupid = why not someone take the idea to the police and see what they say?? nothing lost by trying!!
