How big is the risk of malaria in Hua Hin?
I´m travelling with children, that´s why I´m a bit worried.
Any suggestions?

I haven't heard of anyone catching malaria in Hua Hin. If you go to the jungles in the border area at night time you may get it, but even then it's quite unlikely that you should be in those areas at night anyway. Have no worries.

from my VERY limited understanding everybody gets bitten by mozzies if they are present, some people don't react others react more so ...
You do not react to the mozzie but react to the blood from the animal the mozzie bit last.
I have built up a tolerance to some mozzies in certain areas of Thailand, having spent quite a lot of time here, however I get bitten and react all the time when in Hua Hin. I obviously need to spend more time there !!!
Different mozzies bite at different times of the day, some mozzies only bite certain parts of the body, different mozzies have different diets etc ..
Whilst I know nothing about the presence of malaria in HH I would recommend local repellent used by all if you are worried in any shape or form. The Thai stuff seems to work better than the stuff you buy outside of Thailand, for me at least. Also carry a small green tin of 'Ya gan Yung' a local ointment (Mosquito Protection Ointment) that takes the irritation of a bite away real quickly. It is NOT a repellent even though the name suggests that it is.
I have a 'luk krung' (1/2 Thai 1/2 Brit) 8 year old daughter who gets bitten and reacts badly when in HH so she is kept covered in repellent, we also use an electronic heater type repellent that we use in the bedroom at night and I regularly ask for a 'burner' to be lit in restaurants when we eat out-side.
It should be noted that a good intake of vitamin E will help reduce reaction to any bites you may get.
I personally have never come across a malaria victim having lived and visited Thailand for the past 15 years, that's not to say it does not occur here, it does.
