Longest tourist visa you can get and where?
Is it possible to get a 60 or 90 day visa? And if so, to which countries must I do a border-run to get a visa like that?
It's a small world after all...
A 60 day Tourist visa shouldn't be a problem in Penang or Vientienne (the latter has improved lately). Phnom Phen is difficult. The TV can be extensed in HH, or at any other Immigration office for 30 days at a fee of 1,900 Baht. You could apply for a double, or even triple-entry TV, but most neighbouring Embassies and consulates are only giving single entries now. Note, you can't get a visa by just doing a visa run across the border. You need to apply at a Thai Embassy or Consulate and it'll take a day or two to process.
The 90 day visas are Non Immigrant. Again, most neighbouring Thai missions are only issuing single entries. You'll need a valid reason for getting one - ie married to a Thai national, over 50 for retirement or looking to work (with a job offer). Currently you don't have to show proof of funds to get a single entry. You're expected to apply for a year's extension in Thailand afterwards, when you will need to demonstrate funds. Multiple entry Non Imm O visas are getting very difficult to secure anywhere other than your home country. However, Singapore are reported as giving them, but they are insisting on seeing a Thai bank balance of 400,000 Baht and proof of marriage (together with copy documents from your spouse of ID card and Tabien Bahn). If you're applying on the basis of retirement, then the figure is likely to be 800K in the bank, but I'm not 100% sure of that. KL are reportedly still isuuing multi-entries with the above documentation, but no proof of funds. The multi-entry Non Imm O is valid for a year, but you need to do a visa run every 90 days (if you do a run just before the visa expires, you benefit from a bonus 90 days, thus effectively making the visa work for 15 months).
