Anyone for a game of Mornington Crescent?

Post by komfortablynumb »

Stolen from bbc radio 4s. I'm sorry i haven't a clue.
[i am sure they won't mind].
The rules are far too complex for me to explain. To my shame, it took me 2 years of studying the programe to understand them.
However i am now a novice.

LIVERPOOL STREET.

You may think this station is too far east to be a good starting place. But due to its proximity to the city and of course the Northern line it could be central. If it wasn't so far east.
Over to you.
Your move.

Assuming someone knows what the hell i am talking about.

I've just done a 2 minute Google crash course, so excuse me if I'm way off the mark.

Bank......Hmmm, playing the wild card are you, or is this a bluff?

OK....I'm going for Chancery Lane (had to think about it for a while, but I see no option).

Sorry to disrupt this, but are we playing by the Oxfordian 1927 gambit, or are we playing by the more traditional, Southend-on-Sea directive? We have to bear in mind that if we are playing the latter, then a transferral to a different gambit is not allowed. If, however we are playing by the 1927 rules, then I am much happier.

Cockfosters. Yes I know that it's a bit extreme, but why not?

Where's komfortablynumb - at least he/she claimed to understand this damned game!

By my reckoning Parahandy (with my 2 minute Google crash course), you have lost us the game. I thought the idea was to travel around using a sort of one way system by the longest route possible to get to Mornington Crescent. As Cockfosters is at the end of the Picadilly Line (I think), you have nowhere to go, unless you go back the way you came.

However, as I've already stated (twice), my experience is 2 minutes on Google - I stand to be proved wrong.

Sorry i had to go to work.
Why are you all obsessed with north of the river?
A dogleg route would obviously lead to
Brixton.
I was using the marquis of queensbury rules. The pacifist version.

Welcome back komfortablynumb. Was I right, did we lose, or am I way off track?

Is the game continuing, or do we need to start again?

Can it have something to do with Jack the Ripper?

This is without a doubt Gordon Brown's new internal code explaining things before he relegates the US to stepbrother-hood? Pete

I totally agree with you, Big Boy, under normal circumstances, but, in this particular case I was using the Siendfeld Symposium, which allows me to throw the opposition off-course by going wildly from one side to the other (in this case, north), just to throw them off the scent.

Did you notice the swift and extremely effective response of Richard, returning to Notting Hill, bringing the whole game back into line, albeit with a slightly worried opposition?

This is what we need to stay strong.

Unfortunately the last three posters haven't a clue what we are talking about, but let's not worry too much about that. Surely, they'll give us a break...

I think that it's time to go a little bit 'Hi-So', so I'm going to suggest Sloane Square.
