A good place to drink is at Mr. Sing's mobile beach bar, right outside the Evason (to the left as you come out of the Hideaway).
The best seafood anywhere in the HH/Pranburi area in our opinion is at the OX Restaurant in Pak Nam Pran.
Simply walk north and up past Pak Nam Pran fishing pier. I think it's about the 3rd restaurant on the right past the pier - no signs in English I'm afraid.
You can also recognise it by the fact that it's the only restaurant there which you can actually drive into. They have tables directly on the beach.
It's about 1/2 hour's walk from the Evason or take a tuk-tuk from outside and it's only 5 minutes.
You can also take your own wine there - they will chill and serve it for you at no extra cost.
To buy the wine, simply go to the local supermarket in Pak Nam Pran opposite 7/11 and Tesco Lotus Express or ask the staff in the restaurant to go and get it for you. They own the supermarket too and will only charge you an extra THB 20 or so for going to get it.

hideaway
If you cannot afforde to eat in the hideaway beach reastaurant - just look for another hotel. The kitchen is the best in hua hin area - and who wants to feed his wife on the 4th honemoon with cheep hawker food from the beach....

Quite possibly that's what they want to do?subdoedel wrote:If you cannot afforde to eat in the hideaway beach reastaurant - just look for another hotel. The kitchen is the best in hua hin area - and who wants to feed his wife on the 4th honemoon with cheep hawker food from the beach....

Personally, I'd much prefer the horrible beach food. I've never had a bad stomach from any of them and my wife prefers that grub too.
And it's cheaper/less expensive. I assume I'm a cheap charlie?

I prefer any of the open front places on Poolsuk for instance over the 4x the price, air conditioned, no atmosphere places any day of the week.
Baabaa, How very nice to be called a lady, that makes you a gentleman I believe LOL!!
We've stayed at the Evason before so just fancy eating elsewhere as much as we can. Last time we only ate in Hua Hin and at the hotel.
Some nights its nice to not bother with a formal atmosphere and find a cheap place with good food and atmosphere and just chill out with a few beers etc.
Ive heard about the Windy Bar before but cant remember if it was there last time we stayed.

Kelly,
I really think that your safe eating anywhere in HH or the surrounds. For me and my wife, it's not just the cost of the market/beach stalls that matters (although that does help), it's also the atmosphere.
For instance, there's a large open air restaurant half way up the night market on the right hand side over the crossroad by the 7-11. It's been a while since I was there, but it was always great food and tremendous fun. The chef would flash fry everything and passing pedestrians were shielded by the heat and fire by some contraption probably made by NASA (re-entry stuff on spacecraft). He'd scream and shout at all the staff for food to be prepared and I certainly never saw one complaining about the abuse - you wouldn't if you saw him and his knives!!!
Anyway, that's just one place out of hundreds that'll keep you entertained for as long as you want. And you'd be hard pressed to spend more than 700 Baht or so for two, with beers.
Take a look at this:

and try to learn some basic words for the food:

and away you go.
Writing this is making me feel hungry

Just been reading all these posts and would just like to clarify something....
When JW talks about the Beach, its actually the name of the restaurant at Evason Hideaway, not a little stall on the beach near the hotel.
It is open air and overlooking the sea and has a very romantic, relaxed atmosphere with a fantastic menu, including pizzas which are cooked in the kitchens traditional wood fired pizza oven.
In addition to The Beach restaurant there are 4 other restaurants/bars you can choose from.......

Left out of the Evasons to Mr Singhs cocktail bar is a great place to sit and watch the sun sets (unfortunately not over the sea). Not tried any of the restaurants going north.
As you come out of the Evason turn right (south) and walk along. There is the Windy Bar - cocktails and food where we've eaten many times. Staff are really nice. A little further on is the Thai House (Baan Thai) which has a wider menu selection than the Windy Bar restaurant. Again we go there several times a month. The Taosri (?) is also a nice place but a little more expensive.
Going south along towards Kao Kalok there are numeropus oyer places from the Chatelet (right on the beach), Aleenta (expensive as Evason but great food), the Purimuntra (really nice staff and food) and on to Kao Kalok where there are several inexpensive restaurants where Thai holidaymakers eat. Food is usually good and cheap.
Kao Kalok is about 5 kms from the Evason so you may prefer bike/ taxi/ tuk tuk to walking.
We have lived near Kao Kalok for over 18 months so eat at the above (except the Aleenta - special occasions!!) regularly. And don't forget - what suits some people may not suit others.
