Issan again
Hi Big,
I was wondering if Issan can be reached by land (a day trip?) or is
it too far from HH. In Kilometers what would be the approx distance ?
If it were close say 200 or so klicks I'd head for any nice place there,
I understand there are some Historical sites.
Thanks PP

peter-pan,
When you talk about Issan, you are talking about a huge area (must be at least 1/4 of the total area of Thailand. It is basically the North-Eastern section of the country.
If travelling from Hua Hin, I would guess you would pass through Bangkok en-route (you could by-pass, but I'll leave that to the experts to comment on the feasibility). Therefore, you are already talking at least 3 hours each way. To reach the outskirts of the Issan region, you would be be talking a couple of hours more.
Yes, you could reach the outskirts in a day trip, but you'd probably only have time for a quick Chang before starting the trip home again.

Hi Again-Issan
Thanks guys,
To be honest I was trying to find some places of interest that were
200 or so Klm from HH (using HH as a base).
I have since found this site below which gives me several options
however, they seem a bit pricey for an individual traveler (Me).
what's your views on this?

Yes, for the prices on that website it would be cheaper to rent a car and drive around them in your own time. I’m sure there are also tours available from Hua Hin to these sites for much less than the prices quoted; that must be aimed at the 5 star resort tourists.
For instance that tour of Hua Hin and the surrounding area could be done under your own steam for a couple of hundred Baht using local transport.

peter-pan,
Those prices do look a little steep. I would recommend using that site to work out where you want to go. You then have a couple of choices when you get to Hua Hin ie:
1. Go in to any of the local tour shops and book yourself on to a tour with a bunch of strangers (good way to meet people, and probably the cheapest option).
2. Take a walk down Damnoern Kasem Road and barter with one of the taxis that sell such trips there (more expensive, but you do what you want, when you want in your own time).
3. If the journey isn't too far, hire a local Tuk Tuk.
4. If you're confident, and good at finding your own way around, hire a car and do your own thing. Nice way of doing it, gives you much more time (maybe use the vehicle to visit an out of the way restaurant in the evening)
Enjoy
