Guess, thats all well and good explaining about the two different strains of rabies. But when you are standing in front of a couple of dozen monkies, some of them baring teeth, all im thinking about is, im wearing shorts, they can scratch, and how much is a tuk tuk to the hospital......
Rabies or no rabies.
And as playful as they might seem, they are not exactly pets...
They also pick each others backsides.... Says it all for me.....
What is an absolut must to do/see in huahin?
things to do
get in a tuk tuk and go to la mar, south of town on monkey mountain, for dinner. Wait till dark and you will be treated to a world class view amd a nice seafood repast. On other side of monkey mountain is a great beach. You go throught an army base to get there. Next, and this is going to be hard to find, but if you head toward Palau waterfall when you get to the 7-11 do not turn right but go straight. If you take a right your headed toward the golf driving range. Go straight at 7-11. Keep going up mountain and when you get to top take a left into park. Go in and follow signs to overlook of town. This is a wonderful view of Hua Hin. Last go to Dusit resort for sunday brunch. This will knock your socks off. Hollywood setting with best food in hh.

You are quite right of course they can bite and scratch and do carry diseases. The very minimum treatment if bitten would be a tetanus injection.andywat wrote:...........But when you are standing in front of a couple of dozen monkies, some of them baring teeth, all im thinking about is, im wearing shorts, they can scratch, and how much is a tuk tuk to the hospital......

To re-iterate, don't go near them if you don't have to and always carry a stick. Nobody will object, most of the shopkeepers either have sticks or have trained their dogs to give the monkeys grief.
Down below the mountain at the beachside restaurants they are bombarded with rocks and fired at with catapults.
If you must go there try taking the left fork, near the top, just before La Mer, and drive through the temple grounds to the end. Good view on a clear day of Ao Hua Hin to way past Cha Am and south to Sam Roi Yot.
