The thing is you can’t get away with just having a coup because a government is being incompetent, if that was the case there would be one everyday somewhere in the world.

The way to go about this situation is to go through the democratic process of forcing an election and voting them out if the people agree with you that you have a better plan.

You seize power through a coup in the instances whereby a government or leader has illegally circumvented the democratic process to hold onto or abuse power. Obviously a coup is unconstitutional and so the only way you can justify having one is by basically claiming you were forced into it by being denied any democratic alternative.

This is a very important point because if you hold a coup and then following the subsequent election you are deemed to have acted without due cause you could find yourself in jail for the rest of your life, or shot against a wall in some countries.

As for Hua Hin being a fishing village ten years ago, were you here then? I was and I remember it well. In 1998 Thailand was in the grip of a major financial crisis and being bailed out by the rest of the world but the tranquility of the “fishing village” at Hua Hin had already been assured by a major by pass, although that was to prove counter productive because at that time they were spending substantial sums extending the runway and building new facilities at the airport that served this “fishing” village. Maybe you could have referred to Khao Takiab as a fishing village then and definitely Khao Tao would have qualified for that description but I fear that describing Hua Hin as a “fishing village” just ten years ago is woefully incorrect.

Clive, I find your comment on Isaan people patronizing, happy friendly and most of them work very hard, these are the real Thai people, that us westerners genraly appriciate and love, there is a very big margin between you 5% middle class elite Bangkok familys and there corrupt crony friends and life styles.Let me re phrase HH from a fishing village, to a small town with a fishing based economy, you said about a major bypass being constructed and large sums of money extending HH airport and the runway,hummm o, and even up in Isaan they are building roads 24 hrs a day housing developments,hotels major infrastructure being put into place for the future,and you dont think this is a developing country you are talking foo,Spitfire sumed this up in a nut shell, this is a developing country some people are just getting left behind a bit, but dont you think that the elite people running this country it suits them to a tee, to profit, from everyone else with unbelivable greed.There will allways be major discontentment with the politics, very rich pickings for some people, wot a life style.

Clive, I think you shouldn't give kendo shit about Isaan girls, most are great and real, will work their butts off aswell, which is more than can be said for the lazy, ski-jumped nose types from Bangkok( just generalising, maybe some are OK ).

Most, probably a large amount to be frank, of the guys here and elsewhere in Thailand are probably shacked up with Isaan girls.

Those that propergate the 'holier than thou' attitude on this one are wrong, however, I could come up with much more colourful descriptions for them that would probably get me locked out of this forum, so I won't.

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Thailand's powerful military has indicated that it might stage a coup as tensions mounted over a controversial minister and anti-government groups planned a major street protest.
Rumors of a coup have circulated in the Thai capital in recent days as the army and opposition parties escalated their attacks on Jakrapob Penkair,
a minister attached to the prime minister's office accused of insulting King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The military has strong loyalties to the palace and has in the past also used alleged attacks against the monarchy as a pretext to seize power in some of Thailand's perennial coups.

Supreme Military Commander Gen. Boonsang Niempradit Thursday told reporters that «no soldier wants to stage a coup to topple the government but I cannot guarantee that there will be no more coup.
