Yes Sandman

Lots of those still on the books

It is illegal for a cab in the City of London to carry rabid dogs or corpses.

It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside down.

Royal Navy ships that enter the Port of London must provide a barrel of rum to the Constable of the Tower of London.

In England, all men over the age of 14 must carry out two hours of longbow practice a day

In London, it is illegal to flag down a taxi if you have the plague.

To mention but a few

OK, this one's a bit controversial and might be over-stepping the lines but, did you know,

When the Japanese invaded in WW2, the Thais refused the British passage through Thailand to meet them because they thought the Japanese were going to win, might be why Malaysia and Singapore fell. It wasn't till later that they sent sent a battalion of Thai soldiers to fight on the side of 'The West' when they knew the game was up.

They declared war on the UK and America, but what saved them was the fact that the Thai Embassador in the US refused to deliver the letter, good on him, smart man.

If there are any flak-cannons, then check the history. I'm :run:

Did you know that the old capital of Ayutthaya had an estimated population of one million inhabitants by the end of the seventeenth century.
At this time London only had a population of around 575,000, Paris 600,000 and New York 5000.

Did you know?

The Thai greeting “Sawatdee” was invented during the Second World War. Before that, people greeted each other by asking if they had eaten yet.

Apt before the Olympics this -
If medals were awarded for the largest amount of people killed under a single dictators regime, it would be as follows -
Bronze - Adolf Hitler (approx 11,000,000)
Silver - Stalin (approx 30,000,000)
Gold - Mao Tse Tung (approx 70,000,000)

Did You Know.....
Thailand used to have two species of rhino untill they where hunted out, 100 years ago. The two species are both critically endangered today, they are the Sumatran rhino and the Javan rhino, one of the rarest large mammals on earth, there is only 60 Javan rhino's left in two populations.
Very sad but true.

Following Kendo's comment, I'm repeating a post on this thread.

Did you know that before the currency changed to the 'Baht' it was called the 'Tickel'?

Immagine the fun we could have if they'd kept the name!!!

This could be an entire new thread entitled "Was Thailand really never colonized?" I think in a nut shell they were by the Japanese, and they escaped other events in their history by giving territory away before it happened. Pete

Yes Pete, there's a monument on the roadside down near Ranong with a map showing Japanese occupancy during WW2. Its right on the narrow stretch of river separating Thailand from Burma.
Apparently, just up the hill across the highway from the monument there was a Japanese lookout post, clearly situated to keep an eye on the Burmese side. But if you talk to Thais who know the monument and area you get the distinct impression that Japanese occupancy may have been much more widespread than they like to admit.
Understandable, but I wonder if anyone can provide more insight?

Did you know that....The shape of Thailand is similar to the profile of an elephant with a long trunk stretching down the peninsular. School, students are taught that their country resembles the shape of an ancient axe with the peninsular being the handle...
