^ No, actually I would disagree about where all the expats went to drink etc, as well. Bintabaht was doing a relatively good trade at the time (and, as far as I remember didn't only consist of the Celtic Bar). Also Bernie's & that area was quite well populated. I just couldn't be bothered stati...

I came here to live in 2001 and would take exception with some of your recollections (ie the number of expats around at that time) So you actually disagree with exactly 1 of my recollections. OK, well I suppose I was thinking more about the circle of regular ex-pat drinkers around town at that time...

I first settled in Hua Hin about 7 years ago, and lived there for just over 3 years. I often go back to visit, but the main reason I visit Hua Hin now is that my girlfriend lives there. Hua Hin was a very different only back in 2000. There was no Hilton nightclub, just places like Pa-ra-dai and Blue...

You know, most places on Khao San Road in Bangkok won't let Thais stay. Here's a funny related story. I was on Koh Samui with my Thai girlfriend a couple of years ago. I had a plane ticket, but she had come with friends, and was returning to Hua Hin by bus. We went to book the bus ticket for her, an...

It is a real pity! Hua Hin has been destroyed over the past 2-3 years. A few years back I would have loved to live in a nice, traditional wooden house in Ban Khao Tao, as even by that time the rest of the town was way over-developed. I'll be looking for land/house in the next 2 years and I'll be giv...

Myself and the GF stayed there for a couple of nights recently. They're running a promotion right now, about 3,700 B per night. The place is lovely. We had a villa style room. When you enter the room there's a bright hall area with a bed/couch covered in cushions. You enter the bedroom to the right....

I once brought a Thai friend back a t-shirt from Ireland, nice, polo style.. he loved it and wore it almost every time we met. I would suggest that you get something that cannot be found in Thailand.. I have also brought chocolates over. Big tins of Roses. Went down really well. It depends on who th...

Looking for a condo/house o rent for 2-3 weeks in October

Hi,

I'm going to be in Hua Hin for 2 or 3 weks in October and I'll be looking to rent a condo or house. Anyone know of any good deals going? I don't want to pay the 20,000 - 25,000 rates I've seen on the websites.

Date Rape Drug

A few years back when I was living in Hua Hin, Tim, the then owner of a guesthouse, was approached by a Farang guy who was staggering up the street from the direction of the beach. He was extremely disorientated and was asking Tim where he was... what town. He explained that his girlfriend was in a ...

Korean Arrested in Hua Hin on US$1.6 million Fraud Charge

Korean national Kim Hyongdo was arrested in a raid at a Hua Hin golf course by Prachuab Kirikhan provincial police on charges of embezzlement of Bt61million (about US$1.5 million) filed by Korean authorities who coordinated with Thai police after learning that he fled to Thailand and was running a g...

Hi Dave,

I wan't suggesting that construction workers were responsible.... I was just using the example of the conditions the construction workers live in as an example of the gap between rich foreigners and poor Thais that will, in my opinion, lead to resentment and more crime in the long run.
