Re: Legal fees and lawyer

Look, I'm not trying to drum up business for my wife. She's too busy as it is and, IMHO, works too much. Someone asked how much it costs to do a condo purchase so I asked my wife how much she charges and posted the answer here. It's that simple.

Re: Legal fees and lawyer

My wife is a Thai attorney who is fluent in English. She charges between 10 and 15K baht to do a condo purchase. Her practice is in Korat, but we have a condo in Cha Am and spend a week a month there. She has many clients in the area.

Re: รอยุพอดี

Thanks to all. Progress, slow but sure.... T.I.G.R. - I agree on transliterations. Almost every one you see is hopeless. The real solution is to learn to sound out written Thai. It’s really not as hard as it seems. At first it looks daunting. All those squiggly lines forming characters, many of whic...

Re: รอยุพอดี

The English language has an elaborate grammatical structure, but not every exchange in everyday conversation has a subject, main verb and an object. The guard could have said "for you" the girl could have said "worth 90b" I understand that not all utterances are complete sentences. But, with Englis...

Actually if it's roy phoo dii it is "just one hundred". Or is there a short "u" vowel beneath the "y"? Without the "u", it would mean what I said above.
The way I heard it is: รอ ยุ พอ ดี - if I were to separate it into what I think of as words.

Re: รอยุพอดี

Addendum:

Normally my wife refuses to entertain questions from me about the Thai language, but I tried again.

She suggests that the food court lady probably said 90 ก่อนได้ and not 90 ก็ใด.

However, after lots of the usual back-and-forth, I still don't understand what either one means.

รอยุพอดี

When I got home today the security guard handed me a package that had come by mail. When he gave it to me he said what I think was, "รอยุพอดี". I suppose it means something like "waiting for you", but why the "พอดี". Does it add to the meaning of the sentence or is it just another filler? A more adv...

Re: Thailand's imported wine crackdown

OK, if I'm going to start buying real grape wine in bottles, I'm gonna need some recommendations. At the new price of about 1000 baht for a 3 liter box, the MontClair "wine" is the equivalent 250 baht per 750ml bottle. Are there any decent all-grape wines that come close to that? (I see that Tesco s...

Re: Law Office Kraiwit in Hua Hin

The Thai legal system is sort of a hybrid between inquisitorial and adversarial. But that doesn't mean that Thai lawyers are bad, they're just seeking justice under a different system. Given the Thai psyche, it's understandable that Thailand would adopt a justice system that is less adversarial than...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand

The above is pretty bad I have not seen that volume of dumping in HH, however surely the problem with the above is not so much plastic but a lack of basic services for the community. Inadequate refuse collection and no local dump to take refuse to There is good garbage collection in this area. But,...

LOW PRICED FRUIT WINE? NOT MUCH LONGER

"If you are among the many who have become used to buying fruit added wine here’s a “heads up!” Better start buying a reserve supply before the price jumps by as much as 50% and likely more during the next 12 months." - Bangkok Best Dining - February 2017
