It’s certainly going to cause a stir at San Paulo, when the guy’s lying face down on a stretcher with bulging eyes and a fevered brow, and the radiologist puts the X-ray on the light box.

In our village in Nong Ki, a couple of rai of land came up for sale, next to the crematorium at the Watt. I asked my partner to inquire about the price but she refused point blank, saying I was completely mad to think of buying haunted land. Everybody else in the village was obviously of the same op...

As far as I know there are no commercial GPS maps available yet, but I have seen a road atlas with WGS 84 format coordinates, which you can use with some GPS systems.

I always drive with an old style UK license in Thailand, the one that is just a folded up piece of paper. I find that the best policy if stopped by the police is to show this and my passport open at the photo page at the same time. They always seem happy with that, they mainly can’t read English a...

Hi roro,
I’ve tried to finish of a round of golf in a full on tropical downpour, and I have to say that putting is a bit of a challenge when the ball is completely underwater. Like playing in the midday sun, it is definitely for mad dogs and Englishmen!

Several years ago, I was working down in Balikpapan, Indonesia and we had to get a team of guys out from the UK for a project. Now one of them was a heavy smoker and in the interest of economy, he decided to get everyone else to carry cigarettes for him and bought a couple of thousand Marlboro from ...

One big issue for me is the factor that having worked overseas for most of my life, I own no property in the UK. This means that now I am in my forties, I would be faced with taking on a huge mortgage with the prospect of working into my seventies, just to purchase an average house. I would also hav...

Hi there, If you don’t like the idea of getting into a taxi, there is an airport bus service that goes to the Victory Monument. When you come out of the terminal walk to the left along the front, at the end there is a desk and some plastic chairs, this is the stop. You need bus AB2 which runs from...

Hi egeefay; I know several people, including myself, who are paying 10000 a month or less for house rent. Whilst you are not going to get any amount of luxury for that, you can find houses that are perfectly livable. I have two bedrooms, one with aircon, a sitting area, bathroom, and small kitchen. ...

Thanks for that egeefay, there are some simple ideas there that I would not have thought of, for instance the position and height of trees to shade different portions of the house from different directions and also allow breeze through. I think next time I go up to our house in Nong Ki, I will have ...

Like Wanderlust, I leave all haggling to the girlfriend, as she is lethal. We were up in Nang Rong recently buying some furniture, first she spent twenty minutes reducing the price of a cabinet. Meanwhile I had spotted a chair I fancied so she spent another twenty minutes knocking that down. Then wh...
