Re: Best bank to use

I don't know how they compare to other banks as far as international banking is concerned, but other than that, I have never found reason to complain about Kasikorn bank. If you open an account with them, I would suggest doing so at their branch at Market Village or the biggish branch on the main ro...

In other countries you would both be foreigners, so both of you would have to stand in the same queues.

Re: Junta to tax foreign online shopping platforms

I can really see how this will work. Amazon for example has no official Thai web presence, and to the best of my knowledge, not warehouses here either. Thai or expats buying on amazon.com are buying from an American company on an American website. Any tax paid by Amazon would need to be paid to the ...

Re: Thai officials believe 12 boys missing in cave are alive

Elon Musk calls British diver who helped rescue Thai schoolboys 'pedo guy' in Twitter outburst https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/thai-cave-rescue-elon-musk-british-diver-vern-unsworth-twitter-pedo-a8448366.html In my opinion the whole Musk thing was a promo opportunity from the beginnin...

Re: One day car hire

Hi VS If you are still looking, please advise ASAP and I'll have a word with one of my mates who will almost certainly let you hire his pickup considering that he rarely uses it. It's a Triton and in mint condition. I'll check back a few times during the day to see if you've replied, and if need be,...

Re: Nescafe

Last month I bought a “phin filter” in Vietnam, I was not sure how to best use it until I saw this charming video today. How-to-Brew-Vietnamese-Coffee.wmv: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DwPGkq8SFE I followed the advice and it gives a cup of strong coffee but it’s a bit slow to filter through and...

Re: Nescafe

You shouldn't have much bother finding that coffee Big Boy. They used to sell it at Tesco, so perhaps they were just out of stock when you tried. I've also seen it at the HH Shopping Mall and the G Market by the rail crossing. I also use the same brand sometimes, usually bought at Makro in the form ...

If a sedative was used, then it was used for good reason, based on a professional and calculated decision by those who are more qualified than we are to make such decisions.

Re: 49 missing as boat overturns in seas off Thailand

The boats are owned and piloted buy a Chinese company operating under a Thai company. The company didn't want to go out but the Chinese tourists insisted, saying that they paid for the trip and if they couldn't go out then they wanted their money back . Via my wife watching a Thai news report. I'd ...

Re: 49 missing as boat overturns in seas off Thailand

As far as the life vests are concerned...................even the padded type jackets like the one in the photo, will severely impeded any attempt to escape from inside a sunken vessel. Strangely enough, every offshore training course that I have been through, and there have been many, not once has...

Re: 49 missing as boat overturns in seas off Thailand

This story seems to have been buried in the news sites sadly....whilst the saving of 13 negligent Thais who wandered into caves that should have been off limits at this time of year is way more important. Channel 3 stuff....40+ Chinese died due to Thai stupidity and it's not so important. They even...

Re: Governor: 49 missing as boat overturns in seas off Thailand

Personally, looking at that vessel, it looks well big enough to me to carry 105 passengers. I'd guess many were below deck, which is why so many have perished. I would guess that most would have been below deck. In one of the above articles, it states that most passengers were wearing their life ja...

Re: Quick briefing please

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm just curious about the frozen expat pensions thingy. Are British retirees denied a state pension if they chose to live abroad as an expat?

If so, then all I can say is shame on the UK government.

Re: Governor: 49 missing as boat overturns in seas off Thailand

What a sad and unnecessary loss of life. In my mind, strong winds and rough seas are not fully to blame. This is just another example of an almost sick addiction to baht.
