Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
In a place like HH, for long term foreigners the terms Ex-pat and Immigrant may be interchangeable. But in cities where most foreigners are there for work, the terms are quite different. The typical ex-pat is there on a company contract, recruited and brought out by them, often with a BIG benefits ...

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
Speaking from the viewpoint of a retiree I feel the biggest benefit is to experience a new and exciting chapter in my life. The weather also is a huge plus. The cost of living also helps but I suppose the government will catch on eventually and bump up the taxes. Healthcare I find here is excellent...

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
The biggest benefit in being an expat ( I despise that term) is that I can leave. Expat is a term that a lot of other immigrants feel is caucasians giving themselves airs. Indians I know snigger at it or find it annoying. TBH I feel 'what's in a name'; Indians, Pakistanis, anyone can call themselve...

RIP
Life is not really held sacred (except in name only) in so many countries, not just here. The amount of money spend on safety in a lot of Western countries is huge, companies are forced by law to do it. Not sure that could ever happen here?

Re: Name calling in Thailand
BB please don't take offence I wasn't calling you in particular a nazi! I was just referring to the very vigilant roles that admins take in keeping threads on topic. Just tongue in cheek. Yes it was a jest, really. :) And 'farang'? No issue with it, as said above it's just descriptive unless said wi...

Thanks, I'll take a look too. You may notice VM is usually pretty empty compared to other supermarkets. They have an excellent range of imported goods but it's the prices...

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
It'll be a few years before the pound/dollar recovers properly after the dust settles from what's going on atm in both places but it's certainly true about how good the lifestyle was back in the day here. This was one of the best things about being an expat here back then as to live a comparable li...

Re: Poorest Thais to get income support benefits
Seems a bit harsh to allocate so much of it to long distance travel?

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
...crowing about how cheap everything is. :) Hm, thats why there are no expats from my country... it is not cheap at all for my countrymen... But weather is better maybe! Thailand is so much cheaper than the places I lived before, I can't get over it yet. I wish I'd been here a few years ago when r...

Re: 18 year low tide in Prachuap province
And are there places along the Prachuap coast where you can view live coral just by walking out into the sea with a facemask (not swimming/snorkelling over them)? Sorry if I'm ignorant, but would like to spend a bit more time doing that sort of thing. Yes, there is a bay in Bangsaphan called Bo Tho...

My mistake on the geography, yes Uruguay/Argentine border.
Your other points are all trolling nonsense. And please get back to 'Pies of Hua Hin' before the thread nazis start in on you.
