Re: TV series worth watching/downloading

Two others I've got lined up are Granite Harbour , a Scottish police drama, and 16th century English whodunnit Shardlake ... I know, but not much new sci-fi about at the moment! I've got both on my hard drive too, thankfully I see my Granite Harbour has subtitles, probably needed for the first coup...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread

I'm not a person for subtitles, so haven't bothered with Raise the Red Lantern. I believe that more and more people watch even English language TV and films with subtitles on, even my son (in his 30s). For some I'm sure it's the mumbled speech in US films, or the dialect in Scottish/Irish films. Yo...

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion

After several months of faultless working, Express VPN started playing up again last night. Trying to access iPlayer. Is anybody else experiencing the same please? Dannie Boy, I'm particularly interested in how you are being affected, if at all. BBC may have extended their range of blocked IP addre...

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion

I've used WiTopia's PersonalVPN since 2007. They are not the cheapest (not a Cheap Charlie although I'm poor 555) but their instant online service support is superb, and I've never been let down (they couldn't crack NZTV but promised to keep trying!). They issue a custom VPN server address for iPlay...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread

BB your last two posts have been to firmly slate films that I endorsed! I'm not complaining, I just think we can agree that we have varying tastes. I'm eclectic, and find that while I often enjoy the films making box office, I also like left field films if they're well made, and Asian films (harder ...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread

The first 20 minutes of Love Lies Bleeding looks like a hot girl on girl film, but it's setting up the story for a dark and violent love story, with some humour too. I thought it was great.

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread

So maybe I reported too soon, But surely the online system wouldn't know that anyway? However they were happy to do the 30 day renewal at Bluport today! No skin off my nose in the long run. I think the online system would know - this morning I received an email from immigration reminding me that my...

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading

Twisted Metal is 10 x 30 minute episodes of post-apocalypse style road trip action. Guns, explosions, guns on cars, and humour and love story. Based on the old Playstation game, but there's no brutal car rollerderby action, and I can see that will maybe be the basis of the second season. Not sure i...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread

A remake of the incredibly popular Swedish movie Let the Right One In (2008) which I now need to watch, Let Me In (2010) is an outstanding movie. Starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Richard Jenkins, this vampire flick has easily moved into my top 20. :D You were doing so well there, I was almost on the...

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread

So, even more weird then. I read this morning on another forum that you can't, but I have a feeling that I did it online last time I returned too, although I can't remember. In that case there seems no explanation then why my attempt last week was twice rejected.

Thanks for the input guys.

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread

I've checked my problem and now see that the first 90 day extension after leaving the country must be at an immigration office, not online. I'm sure I knew this but it's been a while since I flew overseas. Heigh ho!

Re: All imported goods now face 7% VAT

Amazed nobody has commented on this, it will affect all purchases from Lazada that are not local. That said, stuff may still work out cheaper from China ... got a feeling this is a knee-jerk reaction to the elephant pants fiasco. Please tell me about the 'elephant pants fiasco'! Actually, I'm now g...

Re: Buying naan bread in Hua Hin

Makro have a good selection of frozen Indian breads. Their parathas fry up well, I don't know about their naan. I may have seen fresh (well, unfrozen) naan in Villa Market, maybe someone else can confirm this.

Re: Making a good stew (Beef or other)

A curry is most definitely a stew. The fact that Westerners use the word and Asians don't is irrelevant. People decide which meat and other ingredients they want to use, put them in a pot and cook it slowly, that's what stew means. Local 'definitions' may deviate (Lancastrians note), just as a cooke...
