I worked in Jeddah for one year.
It only rained once, and oddly enough that was on Xmas Day.
I should add, only light rain.
If I remember correctly, there was an odd smell of camel pee/pooh in the air, as the rain soaked into the fertilised flower beds in the compound.
Nostalgia - not.

Re: Looking For New Tablet
I have a Surface Pro 5 that has been good over several years. One exception, I have had 2 cover keyboards go dead on me. Surprising, as I take great care of my devices. Now, I quite like using it without the keyboard. I bought a cheap, normal size Bluetooth keyboard for use when needed, and much sma...

Re: Taxi service to Bangkok airport
I have used Bliss Travel more than a dozen times, mainly because they have an online request form, so no misunderstandings. Always very satisfied with service (except one), but the fact that we never have same driver or vehicle worries me a bit, as if they go on the web and find just anyone who is a...

"Metronomic call of Coppersmith Barbet".
Heard this for first time a week ago, seems to go on all night.

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates
I had already turned up the main ramp before getting myself diverted to a separate queue – although there was definitely some signage about age, etc. That queue was mostly oldies and people with kids in pushchairs. Plus, like I said a few people having delaying ‘passport issues’. This may be why I g...

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates
I went through Immigration early morning on 12 October. There was an enormous queue. I remembered advice on this forum about a separate outlet for families and the elderly, so I talked to one of the officials. I think there was an age criteria on the signage? I transferred to a much, much shorter qu...

Re: Pizza in Hua Hin
OK – ‘in the Gourmet Market’. The ball of dough does seem to be just out of the fridge, but the thin base of the pizza is freshly baked and has the right taste and texture. Not a disappointing ‘biscuit’ like a frozen pizza warmed up. I’ve had the pasta there that was also good. The new chief takes a...

Re: Pizza in Hua Hin
I’ve only tried 2 pizza places in HH, admittedly a very limited experience. California Pizza – never again, weird soft cheese, like a cheap substitute. And, the pizza place (Petits Plaisirs?) next to Gourmet supermarket in Bluport. The margarita is pretty good if you like a thin pizza, and with the ...

Re: Waterworks down below
I had some blood tests done while in Bangkok. My PSA was a bit high (above 4), but normal for my age according to Google. So, I decided to visit Dr Panupong at his Soi 88 clinic for a finger test. Apparently, prostate felt normal, but advised to check PSA again in a few months. If more elevated, he ...

Re: American Fried Rice / Khao Pat American
I tried the fried rice at Market Village in the basement food court (mentioned above). They use chopped carrots and onions, no tomatoes. It’s OK, not too mushy, not too wet. One negative – it’s sweet. My companion explained that they use sweet soy sauce in the base, not the more usual salt and garli...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)
The lawyer told me that most of those looking for Thai TIN’s are from Iceland – don’t think I ever meet someone from Iceland?
Got a feeling all Aussie banks will on the same page. Not really a big problem for me, I already moved most of the money into my daughter’s account.

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)
The walls are closing in. I have to provide a Thai TIN to my Australian bank. I can see they are serious, as they want to see evidence of my TIN application, to prevent restrictions on my bank account. Last week, I had to visit a lawyer on another matter. As we chatted, I asked her about a Thai TIN....

Re: Travel agents for flights
I contacted Western Tours by email and they can make the air ticket reservation for THB 500 per person.
Apparently, the reservations expire after 3 days, but looks like that's OK for the Schengen visa application.
Thanks for the tip.

BTW - it looks like the Schengen visa can get issued within 2 weeks, but UK visa takes much longer?

Re: Travel agents for flights
Airline bookings for Schengen Visa The application for a Schengen Visa or a UK Visitor’s Visa seem similar, except for the Schengen Visa, there is the additional burden of providing flight and hotel bookings - as if all the other stuff to be provided was not enough. I don’t want to book anything, b...
